It took us a minute, but we finally found it. A clear cut legacy that we will leave behind as a generation.

Decentralization.

The 2020s so far have revealed the dangers of Centralized dominance. Social media platforms banning its users, stock exchanges disabling trading activities, skepticism of voting operations (applies to any country).

Seen Social Dilemma? Scary stuff. But, fortunately for us, and the generations to come, a hero has appeared to save us.

Decentralization.

Decentralization democratizes a system, where there is no central authority. Imagine a country ran by no presidents or rulers. All the decisions and outcomes of said country are run entirely based on the citizens. "Controlled Anarchy".

The genesis of decentralization has started with finance. Bitcoin is a decentralized form of money that is controlled by no sovereign entity, and escapes the dangers of inflation. A form of money that belongs to no nation, and yet, can be used and accessed by anyone - no matter their ethnicity, financial situation, or societal position.

  • Decentralized Money (Bitcoin)
  • Decentralized Lending, borrowing, and insurance
  • Decentralized Social Media
  • Decentralized Governance
  • Decentralized Internet

While ideas like democracy have been in existence for centuries, none of the past generations have had the power of the internet. If any generation is equipped to implement democratic ideas efficiently, then it's Gen Y.

In Defi, the process of getting a loan is democratized, where lenders borrow from a pool of people vs a central entity such as a bank. In Hive's platforms, there is no central force to restrict the access of the content creator. In Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, board members or executives don't decide the direction of the organization, but instead, those rules are decided by the members of the organization as a collective.

Perhaps some might consider millennials to be late bloomers, but in the end, they've shown that they can rise to the occasion of Changing the World when it needed to be saved.
