The Rise Of Cyber Deceit: Stay Safe

in Digital Lifestyle • 6 hours ago

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome 🤗

The rate of Internet fraud in this day and time is really alarming. It's disheartening and disturbing at the increasing rate at which these fraudsters and scammers are targeting innocent individuals.

These unscrupulous individuals are using the vulnerability of the innocent to exploit and manipulate them using different tactics.

I have been a victim of internet fraud on different occasions.

The first time I fell for this was in 2019, when I saw someone on Facebook advertising different products; among them was this beautiful handbag, so I checked her page out and saw different posts she made of people saying they like her product because of its quality.

Because I didn't want to be scammed, I spent some time on her page to be sure before buying anything from her, and I thought I had done my investigation, so I ordered a handbag made payment including delivery fee, and that was the last time I heard from them. They blocked me.

Because I have a coconut head, this incident didn't stop me from buying things online. In 2020, I saw a brand of hair products that I liked. I chatted them up, and they sent me the number of their distributor in my region. I made payment and was expecting my goods in two days, but the lady stopped picking up my calls. This time around, I went to both Instagram and Facebook to drag the brand. It took me about four months before I got 70% of my money back.

I still did not stop purchasing things online.

I have also paid for different courses like video editing and graphics design, etc., not knowing they were fraudsters.

This scammer has made a lot of people, including me, lose their trust in most online vendors because of the emotional distress one has to pass through and the financial loss.

The only way to not fall victim to these scammers is just to be very careful and cautious and check the source of their site over and over again. I would have fallen for a job scam a few months ago, but because of these past experiences, I had to go to different platforms to verify the source of the job, and I found out that they were fraudsters posting as a foreign hiring agency.

Here are a few precautions to look out for.

  1. Verify the website
  2. Avoid clicking on links you are not sure of the source
  3. Try using a very strong and unique password, and if possible, enable two-factor authentication.
  4. For online shopping, read their reviews from other customers.
  5. Make sure to verify any site before sharing your personal information.

Please stay informed and be vigilant.

Wait first, so tell me exactly what lesson you’ve been learning from getting scammed online because it seems you keep doing it.
