The night without phone

in Digital Lifestyle4 days ago (edited)

Greetings!

I'm someone who is very attached to my phone, and that's because, as it stands now, my phone is my 'everything,' especially with the fact that I earn a living through what I do with it. However, I've had several encounters where I had to stay off my phone for extended periods, and these were not intentional. Each time, I almost lost my mind. Let me share with you the most recent incident, which I think is the worst of them all.

This happened three years ago, back when I was already into blogging(not Hive), and I made sure to always have my phone at hand. It was a Wednesday, and there was no electricity, and my power bank was faulty. So, I took my phone to a pay-charge center to charge. I dropped it off around 4:00 pm and asked the owner of the place to please stay until 6:45 pm that evening so I could pick it up on my way back from church. Yes, it was a Wednesday, and that’s my church's midweek service day.

I'm not sure what happened, but I ended up staying longer than usual in church, and by the time I returned, it was exactly 7:00 pm. When I reached the pay-charge center, I found it locked. I borrowed a phone to call the guy's number, but it was switched off. At that moment, I felt like my world was either ending or had already ended because there was no way I was going to spend the night without my phone.

How did I cope that night?

When it became clear that it was going to be a tough night, I made up my mind to sleep very early and, hopefully, wake up late—around 6:00 or 7:00 am. But guess what? Sleep completely eluded me. I entered bed around 8:00 pm, closed my eyes to welcome sleep, but it didn’t come. I struggled hard, tried to relax my mind, to push away the thoughts, but nothing worked.

To make matters worse, my brother wasn't home that night. At least if he were around, I could have talked to him to pass the time, but he wasn’t. My brother has two laptops at home, and I’m free to use one whenever I want, but unfortunately, that night, the battery was dead. So, I was left without sleep even when I desperately needed it.

The only option left was to read some hardcopy books, but I didn’t have any because I wasn’t, and still am not, into reading books. The only books available in the house were my brother’s school books and the Bible. And honestly, neither of those was an option for me. I could almost imagine the devil laughing at me for picking up the Bible to read just because my phone wasn’t around—just like how my sisters used to tease me at home whenever I picked up a book while waiting for my phone to charge somewhere else.

I just lay there in bed, muttering curses under my breath at the pay-charge guy for holding my phone hostage and putting me in such a predicament that night.

Do you know what made it even worse? There was no clock, so I couldn’t even check the time. I was just left to calculate, assume, and imagine what the time could be.

Miraculously, I eventually fell asleep and woke up the next day. You should have seen how I queried the guy when I went to pick up my phone!

So what can I do survive being without phone?
Maybe a sleeping pill if it's a night. But in day time, there's always work to do

Thanks for reading.

Boredom at its peak, honestly not having your phone with you could be terrible. Most times even if I don’t have a good service, I will just want my phone close to me

Yes ooh!
Phone is the baby to the babyless😅
Thank you for stopping by.
Sorry for my late response

This was so hilarious to read! We can also imagine the devil laughing at you because you decided to read the Bible just because you had no phone or nothing to do. What if the pay to charge guy didn’t come to work the following day? What would you have done?

Sorry for late response

What if the pay to charge guy didn’t come to work the following day

I can't even think of this.
I would involve the police instantly.

Hehehehe, a whole night of torture, the devil was going to laugh a lot if you read the bible at that time.

Hahahahah!😅
That night was crazy for me😅
