Google Map Saved the Day

The act of moving from one distant destination to another is called traveling. I am a traveler and you can call "Kwaku the traveler" I know of someone who travels more than I do, and it's more like she's going on an excursion or sightseeing in different places. @nhaji01 my love, how are you doing?

It is sad that some people still see the continuous growth of technology as something that would destroy our world, recently Elon Musk company launched a space rocket and the booster came back to the base, as well as the new high robot that can do a lot of things at home. There are many times technology has saved us as humans which we turn a blind eye to but today I will open your eyes to the day Google Maps saved me.

On this day, I was traveling from Lagos state to the country's capital. No train could take us directly to Abuja and I couldn't afford the plane ticket back then so I decided to travel through the road. I got to the bus station, made payment and we all sat down in the 6-passenger car. I had never traveled from Lagos to Abuja before, the two states were thousands of kilometers apart which meant I would be spending more than half of the day on the road.

One thing about me is that I always know when I am heading the wrong way. It's more like a superpower, we have been on the road for hours and I trust that the driver would definitely know the road to Abuja since this isn't his first time traveling that route. At one point, there were two parts ahead of us, I actually don't know the road but the driver took the other part and I believe he was right.

Now, this is where the story gets interesting. The more we drive, the more I see mountains and bushes. Everyone on the bus kept quiet, which made me feel like the driver knew where he was heading to. Each time I checked my phone to see if there was service, I couldn't find one bar, but luckily for me, my phone started vibrating due to notifications coming from different applications.

I immediately open Google Maps to see if we are still on track. I actually don't know the road but after checking Google Maps, the arrow on my map was pointing backward when our car was moving forward. I watched for a little while and I saw that my direction arrow was moving but it was moving towards the opposite direction with no option for re-routing.

It was then I said "Wait o. Have any of you been to Abuja? Do you think we are going the right way? I think we are going the wrong way; driver is this the right way?"

The driver kept assuring us that it was the right way but I wasn't comfortable again so I asked the driver to park so we could ask people around. There was nobody on the road and it was getting dark. Fortunately, a bus was driving by so we stopped the bus and asked for directions. It was shocking to us that we were already heading to another state in the west meanwhile we were supposed to head to the north-central.

The driver kept apologizing that it was his mistake, Anyway, I made sure my Google map was actively giving me directions till I got to Abuja. I got to my destination around 2 am. I'm glad that there is technology that can give us the correct direction to our destination, who knows what could have happened that day if I hadn't checked my Google map?
