RE: Dear iPhone, You Complete Me (Sorry, Android)

I've always been an android guy myself. I use Linux and Windows (when I have to) and don't own a modern Mac so the ecosystem is irrelevant. I prefer to build my own desktops and I prefer the greater variety of laptops available in the PC world.

I think there is very little difference in photo quality or speed when it comes to flagship android or apple phones. One probably hops over the other with each new release. But again, I prefer the variety of Android phones available. There's more to choose from (though admittedly I'm usually buying a Samsung).

Apple designs have become somewhat stagnant. At least they are experimenting with new designs on the Android side...foldable phones, multiscreen phones, etc.

The biggest reasons I've chosen android phones in the past though are starting to change. I always loved the fact that android phones used to have an sd card slot for expanded storage. Unfortunately, this is no longer true expect maybe for some more obscure phones. Also, they are more open in the sense that you can download apps that don't have to be approved by the Google Play Store. Useful for emulators and such which generally don't get approved. And running BOINC which is something else I do. Sadly, it sounds like this may be changing too. In which case, there will be very little practical difference between the two platforms.

Ah, I love this perspective. You’ve clearly put a lot of thought into your choices, and I respect that so much.

You’re absolutely right. Android is pushing boundaries in design, and I can’t deny that it’s exciting to see. That is why I refuse to believe that iPhone means luxury just because they can be a bit on the expensive side, lol, the prices of some Android phones? One could use the money to invest in a property. 😂 Apple does tend to play it safe with their designs, and while I personally appreciate the consistency (and the fact that I can still find my way around without needing a manual), I can see why one would crave that extra dash of innovation.

But I’ll admit, I’ve grown super attached to the iPhone. The reliability of iPhones and their smooth, lag-free interface feels like peace. I think the bottom line is that both platforms have their charm. You’re building custom PCs and running BOINC (major respect for that, by the way), and I’m over here geeking out about FaceTime and seamless photo editing. 😂 At the end of the day, it’s all about what fits your lifestyle best though. 😉

Thanks for sharing your perspective, it’s given me a lot to think about! And maybe one day, we’ll both switch sides just to see what we’re missing. But for now, I'll embrace my iPhones and their boring innovative approach. 🤣
