When least expected unforeseen events occur, emergencies of some kind that make us resort to various tools depending on the circumstances and activities of each person, in fact, there are those who have in their homes bags prepared or rather, equipped with instruments that they consider can be useful in emergencies.
In my particular case, since a few years ago in my country there is an energy crisis that once left the whole country for almost a week without electricity service, although in theory that was overcome, for a few months there have been many blackouts and blackouts in the capital and in the interior of the country is something much more critical.
So about a year and a half ago thinking about taking care of my computer equipment I reactivated a UPS that my husband had there, which only lacked the battery, the purpose is, besides having an extra layer of protection, to finish some work I'm doing on any of the computers a little quieter and have internet to find information and to communicate with a family member and thus know of the situation is only in my area or if it is something national.
So, as a first resource of technology, I use my old UPS that has an approximate duration of: one hour, thirty minutes, my cell phone to investigate and keep in touch and also to illuminate with the flashlight, that in the case of blackouts.
In other cases, for example, when there have been minor accidents with my son or husband, the cell phone is the main tool we use to communicate and seek help, either medical or from the relevant authorities.
The cell phone was also the instrument to which I resorted when my grandmother and mother passed away. I used it to communicate with my sister and some other relatives, first to inform them of what had happened and then to organize ourselves and make all the necessary arrangements.
On the other hand, suffering from blood pressure like my grandmother and my mother, a blood pressure monitor is never missing at home, currently the one I have is digital so it requires the use of triple A batteries, it is practical, because I can take it with me everywhere and use it anywhere if I suspect I have high blood pressure.
Now, it is excellent to have technology in times of crisis, but living in a country where power failures and outages are the order of the day, this has allowed me to see how fragile or useless technology is in the case of a global blackout, for example in my case I have fiber optic internet which will continue to transmit as long as the modem and router have power.
So in a global blackout we would have some services for a few hours, if these in turn have power plants that supply energy for a few hours, if the situation is not resolved we would all be cut off and only services that make use of previous technologies would be working if they do not collapse or succumb and will be available to those who have it, such as the old telephone lines like the one I have at home that if I'm not mistaken uses copper lines and are analog.
In summary, I can say that if indeed I resort to technology in times of emergency having as first option my phone and relying on the UPS and computers, the current dependence on these equipment has made us forget that there are or existed other means by which to communicate or to which to resort, so I close my participation in the proposed topic for the day October 18 of Monthly Prompts | October INLEO

Cuando menos se espera ocurren imprevistos, emergencias de algún tipo que nos hacen recurrir a diversas herramientas dependiendo de las circunstancias y de las actividades de cada quien, de hecho, hay quienes tienen en sus hogares bolsos preparados o mejor dicho, equipados con instrumentos que consideran pueden ser útiles en casos de emergencia.
En mi caso particular, desde hace unos años en mi país hay una crisis energética que una vez dejo a todo el país por casi una semana sin servicio eléctrico, aunque en teoría eso se superó, desde hace unos meses se han presentado en la capital muchos bajones y apagones y en el interior del país es algo mucho más crítico.
Por lo que hace aproximadamente un año y medio pensando en cuidar mis equipos de computación reactive un UPS que tenía mi esposo por allí, al que solo le faltaba la batería, el propósito es, además de tener una capa extra de protección, poder terminar algún trabajo que esté realizando en alguna de las computadoras un poco más tranquila y tener internet para buscar información y poder comunicarme con algún familiar y saber así de la situación es solo en mi zona o si es algo nacional.
Así que, como primer recurso de tecnología, uso mi viejo UPS que tiene una duración aproximada de: una hora, treinta minutos, mi celular para investigar y mantenerme en contacto y también para alumbrar con la linterna, eso en el caso de apagones.
En otros casos, como por ejemplo, cuando han ocurrido accidentes menores con mi hijo o esposo, el celular es el principal instrumento al que recurrimos para comunicarnos y buscar ayuda, ya sea médica o de las autoridades pertinentes.
El celular también fue el instrumento al cual recurrí al fallecer mi abuela y mi madre. Por allí me comuniqué con mi hermana y con algunos otros familiares, para informar primero de lo que había ocurrido y luego para organizarnos y hacer todos los trámites pertinentes.
Por otra parte, al sufrir de tensión arterial al igual que mi abuela y mi madre, en casa nunca falta un tensiómetro, actualmente el que tengo es digital por lo que requiere el uso de baterías triple A, es práctico, pues puedo llevarlo conmigo a todas partes y usarlo en cualquier lugar si sospecho que tengo la presión alta.
Ahora bien, es excelente contar la tecnología en momentos de crisis, pero al vivir en un país donde las fallas y bajones eléctricos están a la orden del día, esto me ha permitido ver lo frágil de o inútil de la tecnología en el caso de un apagón global, por ejemplo en mi caso cuanto con internet de fibra óptica el cual seguirá trasmitiendo siempre y cuando el modem y router cuenten con energía.
Así que ante un apagón global contaríamos con algunos servicios por algunas horas, si estos cuentan a su vez con plantas eléctricas que les surtan energía por unas horas, de no resolverse la situación todos quedaríamos incomunicados y solo estarían funcionando servicios que hagan uso de tecnologías anteriores si es que no colapsan o sucumben y estarán disponibles para quienes dispongan de ella, como por ejemplo las antiguas líneas de teléfono como la que tengo en casa que si no me equivoco usa líneas de cobre y son analógicos.
En resumen, puedo decir que si efectivamente recurro a la tecnología en momentos de emergencia teniendo como primera opción mi teléfono y apoyándome en el UPS y las computadoras, el depender actualmente de estos equipos nos ha hecho olvidar que existen o existieron otros medios por los cuales comunicarnos o a los cuales recurrir, así cierro mi participación en el tema propuesto para el día 18 de octubre de Monthly Prompts | octubre INLEO
