Cleaning the grow tent

in Canna-Curate2 months ago (edited)

I must keep the humidity levels quite high for the cannabis seedlings that grow in this tent. Well other things try to grow as well such a mildew, so once in awhile I need to pull out all the plants and give the tent a good cleaning. If I wait too long the plants will start flowering, and last thing I want is mildew transferring from the tent to the flowers.. So its time to clean up the tent and have them ready to flower when they are at that point in the grow.

My seedlings vary from a week old up to nearly a month old now. They are coming along quite nicely this time.

Two have formed enough nodes to be topped, this is what they looked like before I cut their tops off.

Its hard to see but the floor has mildew growing on it. Its hard to clean with all the plants inside.

Before I pulled out the plants, I topped thew two that are the oldest.

Since these may be autos, I will probably only get one chance to top them before they start flowering.

With their tops cut off, it was time to pull them all out of the tent.

We can see more of the mildew off to the sides. It may be on the cloth pots as well, so I will need to check those.

Quite messy, but luckily the tent cleans quite well using a wash cloth.

It is all from these foggers, a much needed device but over time can build up mildew on surfaces.

To clean the tent I pour a little hydrogen peroxide in a measuring cup and add water. Dipping my washcloths in this should work well to clean up the mildew.

My plants will hang outside of the tent for about 30 minutes as I clean. They should be fine.

With the plants out we can really see how dirty it gets. I also check the cloth pots for any mildew and wipe them off with the washcloth soaked in the water/hydrogen peroxide mix.

I get to wiping up and go through four microfiber towels.. they get so gunked up I am just going to throw them out after.

Much better! All clean now, should last me a few months.. Hopefully I wont need to come back to clean it until these are done in a few months.

I put the plants back in and rotated them. Putting the topped plants at the back and the ones that will be topped soon up close so I can reach them easily.

Those microfiber towels are pretty inexpensive these days I remember when they use to catch a bit of a premium, but now you can get a bundle of them for pretty cheap on Amazon or even Temu.

Yep, they are.. that is why I am not really bothered throwing a couple out when they get so gunky.

I do exactly that, I buy a box of them at a time and they usually last me a year or so on the farm. I try to rewash the ones that do not get too bad. Some of them would clog the washing machine if I tried, and funk it up for future washes.

I've seen them say you shouldn't run them through the dryer, but I haven't had a problem with them so far. Yeah, they might stick to other stuff, but it doesn't wreck them. I keep a couple in my truck at all times for camping and things like that.

Looking great man. Ive got one seedling that just sprouted and waiting on the other.

Thanks, all of your tips and others really helped me get there.

Nice, best of luck with your next crop.

I used to be a project manager for a demolition and abatement company. One of the things we would do is mold and fungal remediation. Obviously you don't want to introduce any hazardous chemicals to this environment. Borax is a fairly benign mineral, it is also a fungistat - meaning it slows the growth of fungus, mold, and mildew. After you clean up the floors with peroxide it might be worth wiping the surface with a borax solution. It's dirt cheap and people use it as a laundry additive. At your local grocery store or Walmart you'll find it either in the laundry or cleaner aisle.

I keep a box handy for cleaning up around the house. It doesn't produce any fumes or have a substantial scent.
It won't kill mold, but in my experience is does slow down mold growth in humid environments.

I have used borax before, it does work great. I should keep a box on hand next time I do a tent cleaning, using two methods would probably help a lot.

BORAX very Good Stuff, I have it around just like a bottle of DAWN, and of Course what life would be like without a Can of WD40 a must!

Between those three you can clean just about anything!

Looking really good bro!
You cleaned your grow tent before me... I've been so stoned and lazy the past few days hahaha.
Those seedlings look spectacular! I'm glad you got things dialed in, now it's time for some monsters :D

Thanks.. hah yeah I am sure you have some major cleaning to do after finishing up on your grow. Hope you are enjoying the buds.. make sure to save some to cure too.. lol

Hopefully things keep going smooth this time.

Cleanliness and tidiness are essential! That was the motto of my mother. You would have got on very well with her, as she always had a separate cloth for every kind of stain and her mixtures in the cleaning water could have exploded at times 😮😉.

So true, it is a routine I must keep so everything runs smoothly.

Hah yeah having towels on hand all the time is key.

Nice cannabis plant, once in a while I need it for a week, hopefully it grows prolifically

Yeah it should start growing quite fast soon.

thank you

You do very well in keeping the inside of the grow tent clean, as you say, the transfer of mold to the plants can be fatal

How beautiful is the growth of your plants, dear friend @solominer

Have a beautiful afternoon

Thank you, yes that is true. Its been to keep a clean environment for them.

Yes they are doing much better this time.

A whole laboratory, it is a job of great dedication, I like those cultivation environments. I learned something in my adolescence. May it have a good harvest.

Ah thank you, the setup has been a work in progress for many years.

Whenever you want to have a high level of humidity for your plants, that will surely bring with it other complications such as mold, but you are right to anticipate and do the cleaning
You are doing an excellent job
Have a beautiful dayHello Mr. @solominer good day

So true, as you said earlier I think it is important to keep those issues in check.

It is truly clean now.😊😊 I'm sure, the plants would love to stay in the tent.😊

Sure is.. hah yes I do think they like the tent.

Hehehe.. Happy growing.😊😊

I hope your marijuana plants grow well, but in our country it's prohibited hahaha

Ah thanks, well hope its legal where you live one day.

I also hope it becomes legal someday

It's nice to hear that your cannabis plants are thriving this time, hopefully they will be well maintained so that they mature faster, oh yes By the way, what is the use of pruning at a young age on this cannabis plant my friend, will they bloom faster or how?

Fungi, in my opinion, is one of the pest factors that must be eliminated as soon as possible, my friend.

Yes, I am glad they are doing better this time around.

By pruning them young, I can control their shape better. Otherwise if I do not, they may grow too tall and get too close to the light bulb burning the buds.

So true, glad I cleaned up in there.

Oh, the use of pruning the shoots to form the task part so that it is not too long, will this cannabis plant until it can be harvested be in my friend's room?

May they continue to thrive my friend until the harvest time.

What a lovely "give me high five" plants you got there sir.

Hah have not heard of that one before, but thanks.

Salute in your efforts for optimal growth of your precious plants.

thanks much, they are coming along quite nicely.

Of course this is a science that I can understand, it's amazing

hopefully your marijuana plants can grow well
Have a nice day my brother ♥️

Thanks very much, I hope they do well through their whole cycle.

You're welcome my brother 🙏♥️

well done, I never had cannabis plants, I don't like smoking 😅
I like growing plants though, don't you need to separate male and female seedlings? I think I read that somewhere

Thanks.. its hard to tell which seeds will become male or female. So you must grow them until they get old enough to tell.

Otherwise you can get feminized seeds which will always be female.

Wow you did a nice job. Weldone

you take very good care and hopefully you get satisfactory results.@solominer

ah I do appreciate it.

It is showing improvement :)

thanks, I think so too.

Nice! Marijuana is Such a Gorgeous Plant ☘️, Nice Operation Mate 🙂💯🧉

They sure are, I love looking at them throughout their grow process.

thank you

My Pleasure!

The trees look very beautiful and if you put them in the tent it will look even more beautiful and the trees will become even more beautiful

They will indeed get better with time I think.

You're doing a pretty good job attending to this plant with utmost care and attention.
This is commendable 👏.

Thank you, they do need a lot of care so I am glad I can give it to them and reap the fruit of my labor eventually.

They have grown a lot compared to last week. Noticeable in a visible way. Continue to follow their growth.

They sure have, I think they are surpassing where I left off on my previous failed grow.

Wow, what a set-up! Looks good.

thanks, it has gone through many improvements over time.

Your plants are looking good.
I am sorry about the mold, it is good to catch it before it spreads.
I do not remember you writing about it last year. Is it something new?
I asked because every time we try to grow something new, the first year everything goes great, but after that we have problems.

Thanks, indeed got to catch it early.

Its a normal routine of mine to clean the tent every so often. But in the past I did not document the process so maybe that is why.

Indeed that can happen. Though my problems this year I can point to being related to changing my potting soil. If I stuck to Miracle grow I would have had pretty happy plants.. But the problem with the Miracle grow is I heard they add fungicides, and since I want to use that fungi powder for their roots I needed to find a different soil.. well the one I got was crap.. So here we are now.

It's like brewing beer the equipment cleanliness is critical for a quality product. I see a lot of people are letting that aspect of growing go to way side because it so easy and cheap to buy near us. A lot of growers just gave up entirely.

So true, any time you want to make a product best to keep the environment and machinery clean. I still need to clean out those foggers, only cleaned the tent so far.

Ah yeah, it is something that requires constant care and changing.. so I can see that.

I will always wish you success in your publications and if they are about what I like, the agricultural part all the better. Thank you for your visits to my publications. Success from Venezuela.

Your dedication and hard work as a farmer are truly inspiring. It’s amazing how you tirelessly nurture the crops and I do trust your efforts to produce wonderful results @solominer

You topped a auto? I didn't even think you could do that.. I topped my photo this morning though

Lovely arrangement, but am curious though i saw cannabis and am wondering if this the same cannabis people smoke or the eatable one

Excellent planting work, coincides with my degree in Phytotechnology (study of plants). Successes.

How much do these tiny plants grow, and what do these plants do for indoor use, You will find joy and happiness every moment while doing your work. Keep it up. best-regarded @mrdani12

It's a good thing you cleaned it out because mildews and cannabis don't grow well together, as mildew can negatively affect cannabis plants.

Thanks for sharing your cleaning process!I'm curious about the hydrogen peroxide solution, what ratio of hydrogen peroxide to water do you use? Also, have you ever tried other cleaning methods for mildew in a grow tent?
