Red Mushrooms

As soon as I see red mushrooms, I instantly think of Super Mario Brothers 3! It was my favourite game on my second ever computer. I had the Amstrad CPC 464 as my first computer, which I adored. Next came the Nintendo, which I equally loved and the graphics and games were a step up from the Amstrad.

So, getting back on topic, I found these bad boys recently, again, no prizes for guessing where I found them! Yep, that's right in one of my favourite places of all, the golf course in Oughterard, County Galway.

I was playing a few practise holes recently and luckily I was alone so I had time to take a quick timeout to capture these guys.

For first time readers who are wondering what Fungi Friday is, I'll say this, we've got Three Tune Tuesdays for the musically inclined. We have Beer Saturday for those who like a brew on Saturday night after a tough weeks work. Then there are Fridays, another favourite day of mine and Fridays mean Fungi Friday.

It's getting to the time of year when I'm seeing loads of mushrooms on the golf course and elsewhere, they seem to thrive at this time of year when it is damp and not too cold yet. If you're in Ireland or the UK, there should be loads of mushrooms dotted around the countryside.

These are not edible needless to say. The red colour is a dead giveaway as not for eating l, although then again apples are red, _{strokes beard pensively} but anyway don't eat these!!

That gets thinking though. All of the things on planet Earth had to be tasted or eaten by someone at some stage to see if they were edible or not. I'm glad I wasn't the one who had to check out if these red mushrooms were edible or not - I'd say that one didn't end too well!

As soon as I saw these mushrooms on an a recent practise round, my thoughts immediately turned to @ewkaw and Fungi Friday.

Here are some more photos this week's specimens. I love when I find red mushrooms and they seem to pop up on the golf course every year around the same place.

I love nature. We can learn so much from her. Indeed humans have learned much from nature. Many of our inventions and innovations are inspired by nature. Would we fly in aeroplanes across the world if we did not observe birds and insects in flight?

There'll be a few of you who have no idea what Fungi Friday is, so let me set the scene for ye.

My golf course is great for mad looking mushrooms and it is in fact soon going to be that time of year when these guys start sprouting up around the golf course again and I always like sharing these photos as they're pretty cool if I may say so myself.
