My thoughts are with the victims in West Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands who lost their homes because of heavy flooding. As of this writing about 160 people (and still counting) died in Germany. The devastation has now reached south of Germany and parts of Austria. Even Vienna has lots of heavy rains today which we experienced about an hour ago and as of this writing, it may continue to rain.
We had a mild weather yesterday Saturday, although it was very humid. I took a walk around the neighborhood, there have been so many beautiful flowers in the garden but I am not sure how they look now after today´s strong rain. In the afternoon, I did container gardening for the new batch of lettuce I got. Good thing is I was able to get organic ones.
Each newbie has good roots and so I hope all will grow nicely just like the first batch. I have changed the soil of the containers since I already used the old soil for the first batch and in my opinion as what the farmers are doing in their fields, one should not plant the same crop in the same field/soil for the following planting season.
Ginger , just a trial...
A piece of remaining ginger from my cooking prompted me to try planting it in soil. I checked it yesterday two weeks after and the leaves sprouted and I think it is feeling comfortable in the soil.
The first tomato harvest....
Just a few tomatoes harvested at the moment and I used the beefsteak variety in today´s snack. There are more fruits that are getting red and I think it will be fully ripe tomorrow.
The snack after gardening...
I made finger food so quickly since I was hungry after the backbreaking work in the garden. My drink had been a cold elder flower that I diluted in mineral water and with ice cubes, it was perfect!
This is Elderflower drink from Sweden that I bought from a Swedish furniture shop. It is refreshing at times when it´s hot and humid.
A Gift from a friend....
I was given this book of one of my favorite painters Pieter Bruegel, the Elder. A friend who works in a bank had saved this book , one of many to be disposed -off soon from her office. I love Bruegel´s paintings, they stand out. I have a print of one of his paintings which I hung on the wall of the comfort room, LOL! I have posted it on Hive before that I converted my CR into a Gallery including some of my books because we relocated into a small flat (half of the size of our former house and garden) and did not want to give them away.
Plans for the coming week....
I normally do not plan anything for the following week, I do things spontaneously. What I had in mind was to do crafting. First and foremost, I want to bake something which I have not done for a long time. So I took some of the muffin books because cupcakes are the easiest to bake. I already have an idea , something with plenty of nuts and berries. Will post soon hopefully.
Then, just a while ago, I planned on doing some crafting so I took out my stash of fabrics as well as the cotton wool for crocheting.... But would I be able to do all these things for the coming week....???
