My wife and I have a thing for a Dansih artist named Bjorn Wiinblad. He has since died but his artwork lives on in these whimsical and colorful characters, that for whatever reason speak to us in some way.
You may already know all of this if you follow my blog. I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned it more than once at this point.
Over the years we have purchased quite a few posters and prints online that we had framed. We probably have too many now actually. It's sort of turning into a "too much of a good thing" type scenario in our home. My wife and I both agreed that we wouldn't buy anymore going forward.
That is, after these new ones that we recently bought from an online mid century modern antique auction.
We found these two silk screen prints on wood panels and new that we would at least have to bid on them. They are very unique and we haven't seen any like them online as of yet. They are also quite massive in terms of their size, measuring approximately 6 feet tall by a little over 2 feet wide.
There were four panels being sold but we only had space for two of them. One of the other ones had a broken frame also which would have been a pain to get fixed I think.
We don't know their exact origin but believe that they were created for some sort of musical event or play or theater production, though we can't be sure. They just have that look about them. They came framed as I mentioned and I actually like the look of the frame, so that was a major plus for us as well. It mean't one less thing for us to do and one less expense.
Speaking of which, they were super cheap too. I don't think that there is a big demand for Wiinblad artwork in our area and maybe the timing of the auction so close to Christmas helped our cause as well?
We paid under $200 Cad for each, which is a steal considering that most of the unframed posters online cost more than that.
Those wood panel ones are magic, a really awesome feature! Despite being blumming massive 😃
Yeah they are quite unique. The size might have been a deterant for others bidding on them too. Worked out for us though lol
Wow what a great deal and those are beautiful with all the gold. The others are great too. Thanks for introducing me to this artist!
Yes, they were a good find. They are very unique. We have never seen anything like them. There were four of them too but we only wanted two. Would have been neat to keep the whole set together. But alas..
Thanks for the support!
Those two panels perfectly fit on your wall. Maybe that wall is for them. Such a nice painting. Art is complicated I think there's more to it that I cannot describe. I didn't know this artist but thank you for sharing and introducing him to us.
Yeah they fit the space nicely. I agree that art can be complicated and definitely subjective. Not everyone likes the same style of art. You have to choose what speaks to you.
Yes, that's true. I appreciate art but don't have an art collection in my home. I admire those people who knew how and what top drew. I like their creativity.
Very unusual artwork! And as long I look at them so more thoughts I have in my head. I would like to learn about the artist.
His work is very Scandinavian in its look. My wife has a Danish background so it appeals to us
That is totally something new to me. But I am so interested in Scandinavian art now. Thank you for sharing it with us!
No problem 😄
Excellent work.
Thanks!
