Come on already guys and gals. Put on your big girl panties and get over all the bull shit. The only result I see coming from the current course of inaction in POB-WOTW and POB in general is the ruin of one great weekly contest and platform.
Honestly, I have not been following what has been going on behind the scenes here at POB. Sure I read the occasional post about too much centralized control, down voting abuse and the like. And yes, these might be very important issues, but we should not let them consume us.
Folks, we are a community! As grouping of individuals, with independent ideas and divergent opinions, we exist - together! Hey guys, NEWSFLASH - that's life! If we stifle independent ideas we lose our freedom of expression. If we let divergent ideas consume us we do not grow and mature.
From my take on the current state of POB, it really appears that many are placing financial gain before what I believed was a major pillar here - creativity. I, for one, will be definitely disappointed if it is this drive for financial gain that becomes the cause bringing POB to its knees.
Turning specifically to the POB-WOTW, I was a relatively new participant in this weekly contest, I think I published three participating posts. Personally, I was not in this for financial gain, but enjoyed the challenge of writing an article on a specific topic that was not of my choosing. Damn it, it was FUN!
Yeah, I'm sure that some merely entered for the weekly prizes, but you will have that happen in any community. But that in and of itself will not be the downfall to this popular contest. I believe the current strife occurring in POB has found its way into the WOTW and is unfortunately consuming it. Even as a small community within the larger society, we should not let societies ills to diminish our creativity, lessen our freedoms and destroy what we have here.
We need to go back to the wonderful weekly instructions received from @calumam to lead us on our weekly endeavors. We need his assistant @scholaris.pob there to assist him in performing his duties to make this thing run. We do need to address the need to inject more objectivity into the grading system, but that is a conversation for another day.
I have honestly been looking forward to the diversion in participating in this contest for the past two weeks, but in the absence of @calumam 's expert leadership I was totally unable to decipher what the WOTW was to participate. A damn shame to see the resulting shamble's remaining from a once wonderful weekly contest. Oh well....
Just say'in....
I have no idea what’s going on and I don’t want to know.
I can comment from the perspective of monetary drivers on Hive as a whole.
I understand that creativity should be the motivator on Hive and its communities and I agree, while I know that there’s more to it than that.
Quality writers, contest Creators, developers, designers, marketing persons, witnesses, etc can only do so much before factoring in the monetary state.
Life isn’t “we don’t have much time” but it’s about what we DO with that time. What are we feeding into activities and for What results?
Common expected results are financial rewards, aiding others, changing the world in a perceived good way, or survival.
Running contests, or doing anything other than writing a 150 word personal journal twice a week, takes a LOT of time, energy, emotional control, resources, and in some cases background education and experience. That isn’t the kind of activity that one will continue to put much into if the rewards that make them feel it’s worthwhile aren’t there.
Hobbies shouldn’t consume us and for many, if we aren’t getting the “paper paper bills”, or helping others, changing the world, or need it for survival, they will always inevitably walk away.
That isn’t my perspective; that’s human nature.
So, yes it’s about the money honey. It’s unfair to those who put so much time into Hive for anyone to say it isn’t about the money. Everyone seeks the same things in the end and in the society we live in, those things almost always need money to produce.
When people get greedy, they usually suffer the consequences of it. POB (and Hive in general) is an interesting balancing act between community and rewards. The rewards are nice, and we are all happy to get them... but if that is all we are here for, we miss out on some really good stuff.
I think things are getting better.
Good post!
I really understand you. Still don't understand what's the word this week and I'm not a detective to read that much to find our what is it. I have my life to care about, the community @dcooperation to care about and my personal blog here and in other crypto platforms. And other things to do. But, I enjoyed the contest and I participated in it from the bottom of my heart. Because as you said, that was great, enjoyable and so interesting. Not only to participate in it, but also to read other entries. I participaed a few times in it and didn't win a delegation, but I wasn't doing that for rewards, I really enjoyed it and get used to it. I'm also creating collaborations with POB, take a look at my post about that in case you want to participate. We don't have rewards now, but in the future we may grow the account and we may have a good upvote to reward those who participate.

Good post!
It was fun while it lasted. This contest became a big part of many people's week.
