A Society In Disarray; A Paradox Of Equanimity. (POB WOTW)

I grew up in a society where stress is mostly synonymous to normalcy. Money is seen as a speedster and hence you'll have to be a sort of "Usain Bolt" because there was no chance to be dull, no time to be a brainy, there was no platform to showcase wits. It's either you eat or be eaten, and most people would prefer the later.

Needless to say people ran before they question the reason for their running, it was a mad frenzy. Being born under such circumstance would change you. As an 8-year old, my school was behind my house, I was up before 6, by 7, I was out in the next street in a queue of more than 40 liitle children holding up my plate to buy food, I needed to meet up a dealine and if I don't hustle to be the first to buy food i'll miss 8 0'Clock as time for school which means i'll be beaten for coming late to school.

Most times I never met these timeline. It was totally unfair to me, I was tiny sickly child who had to negate my nature to alway meet standards set by stronger people. The population was too much to handle it was unfair to compete with stronger people, I was more of brain and wit more than muscle and brute there was nothing serene, calm or composed.

Ours was a society in disarray. Being raised in one of the most brutal places in the world exposed to hunger, poverty and prejudice, made people stiff, it became a survival of the fittest, orderliness was probably something we only see, never experienced it, never saw it. Have you ever had to fight to collect money that supposed to be given to you? That was the state of my society as far back as the early 2000's.

Sometimes you see competition so stiff, you lose the will to even compete, making money was definite, you either make it legally or you take from someone who was making it legally. Perhaps a solicited and formal form of thievery. But then things have evolved; when you talk about a state of equanimity, I think Nigeria my country has grown from that state and it's more calmer.

When people begin to compete on their own level or yardstick of excellence, they'll definitely excel. For a person to attain an accord within the mind, soul and spirit, it must firstly come from without. This means that if you're not fulfilled from without you cannot find the strength to keep your emotions in alignment or reach a certain state of equilibrium, which of course gives you the level of control you have over other external factors.

Things have changed overtime because people no longer have to compete as before. The advent of the internet came and people began to find various ways to channel their energy. Take a look at the world currently; power is shifting: people are beginning to follow their passion, becoming freer.

I grew up as an angry kid, confused and undisciplined in thoughts and manner but moving forward as an adult I discovered my place, this is because the world currently gives you a choice more than it would in the past. Inasmuch we still have chaos and war all around beginning are beginning to question the reasons for it rather than blatantly following the orgy and engaging in a murderous gore.

Need I say the world is attaining a stage of equanimity? Yes, its a process. Let me bring this down: Contentment is a virtue that would ensure complete equanimity. This is because when people are contented, there will be reduced competition. Most wealthy people are seeking to be wealthier, making it difficult to open up a platform for others to compete, when we eradicate astute greed, the urge to make life a competition will cease.

In all fairness, let us consider ourselves as well. Take a look at the crypto market and how people has responded rather hastily to the dip, the ability for one to stay peaceful and calm in compromising times is rather rewarding but then this isn't the case currently. While the world has changed, the change would individually need to reflect in us in totality.

First off, let me tell you that your content's really wonderful, man. I'm quite glad that the situation in Nigeria is improving, I feel our countries are intimately connected to the point that the political and social contexts mirror each other. Keep up the awesome work and may you be blessed with ever-growing freedom!

Oh thanks for the comment, I'm explicitly honoured, I'm someone who likes to have an utterly unique perspective and this is somehow mirrored into my contents. The situation is improving, and the Nigerian society is somewhat of an enigma, especially the socio-economic and political aspect. People are being toughened by adversity and as a result of this people lived mentally caged or sequestered even while living in freedom. Gradually anyways we're attaining that level of liberalism we need.

Thanks a lot again for the curation again, I'm honoured.

Yes people need to stay calm during all the FUD happening. I agree that we need to continuously improve ourselves. There is no room to be complacent.

There is no room at all, self discipline within and without all around how we handle matters like crypto.

Will humans ever be content? I think they will hardly be, there's always a bit if not much of wanting more giving room for competition.

"Needless to say people ran before they question the reason for their running,"

😃😃 Like Fela Kuti sang... police dey come army dey come, confusion everywhere...

I believe less competition will make it easier for
a lot more people to find their place in the world. Truth is, the competition is unfair and even before it begins we already seem to know the winners.

Growing up in a country with such a chaotic pace as you said is really a problem, @josediccus Being able to be a person with a good view of equanimity in these conditions is an even greater challenge.

It's a challenge to maintain a perfect state of calmness. I believe a person is a reflectant of the society where they come from

Unfortunately we are at a point where the rich will continue to be richer, they will try at all costs to crush the middle class and then manage more effectively the most disadvantaged in this way, it will continue to open an abysmal gap and we will continue on the path for the emergence of the first trillion dollar person in the world which seems to me an absolute mockery of humanity

I don't know if we will ever have a society where there will be equal opportunity for both the rich and the average and the poor, I mean the human system itself always creates for a disparity in almost everything, it's really a pity.

We truly don’t look like what we’ve been through. Being a Nigerian and striving hard to make ends meet the right way [legitimately] is very underrated. Keep on being a motivation to the young Nigerian writers.

Try posting I'll do the little I can to support you.

Thanks for dropping by, legitimacy, correctness is sometimes difficult in a lawless nation.

Growing up in Nigeria, going through primary to university, regardless of the different experiences, is always a struggle.

They responded negatively to the dip before it even got deep.

You're definitely right, how its come to be easier for children of nowadays is relieving especially if I had to recount my ordeal. Nevertheless, were getting there, a much more better experience for younger ones of today.

Yeah, I think the only time I went through much stress for my schooling was in the university. That's where my suffering began. Primary and secondary were more or less a sail through for me.

The level of disorganization and expectation depends greatly on the environment and the nature of people living in it .

The standard set by the society is quite excess but also varies , you have to live up to it to be considered a strong human . One of the various problems of humanity .

This is because when people are contented, there will be reduced competition .

I wouldn't totally agree that contentment reduces competition of humans because money will forever be a want , even the rich wants to be richer .

The internet for sure reduced the disorderliness and disarray of humanity by reducing physical competition and also making things easier for us .

Very great write up , I learnt alot from this , thanks 🙂

Of course money will forever be a need but then there should be a feeling that we have enough, it's not as if it's totally enough. But that impression should give others the opportunity to compete. Nothing is ever enough in life. It's us that would place that yardstick.

when you talk about a state of equanimity, I think Nigeria my country has grown from that state and it's more calmer.

In my own opinion, I don't think Nigeria is getting calmer, I think this country it moving gradually from a state of equinimity...

And in this situation, it feels like the best decision we are making as a country, thought it will affect the masses just like in the #endsars, but I think it is worth it if a revolution is going to take place.

In this country, things are getting more expensive (like triple the initial prices), salaries are been withheld, and more people are dying in the hands of evil doers. Even with all this, our beloved president has chosen not to be concerned in any ways.

In the past who dare comes out to protest, but now we have the #endsars, and gradually we are coming back in one voice to say enough is enough. Nigerians are getting tired of being calm.

I think it's actually getting better if you ask me, truth is the corruption and the other unpopular things about Nigeria is taking center stage we just seem to forget we're making progress.
In the past it was rougher. I mean the advent of internet and the world becoming a global village is making change gradually influence Nigeria.
Even awareness about things like tribalism is being raised and honestly it would take a look for us to notice this change.
