The cause of hiccup

in Proof of Brain3 years ago

Hiccups consist of an inspiratory sound that originates as a result of the abrupt, involuntary, and intermittent contraction of the diaphragm (a muscle at the base of the lungs) that causes the epiglottis to close, causing the typical hic sound. It happens when our stomach swells and causes hiccups.

Hiccups start suddenly and generally disappear in a few minutes, it happens to people of all ages; It can even give to infants in their mother's womb, and is very common in babies up to six months of age, which often worries first-time parents.

Hiccups are caused after eating, after drinking carbonated drinks, drinking alcohol, very hot or cold drinks that are very spicy, or due to nervousness or excitement.

To stop hiccups it is recommended:

Have a glass of cold water.
Cover our noses holding our breath.
Take a tablespoon of sugar.
Bring the knee to the chest.
Give a slight scare.
Breathe into a bag.

In the case of babies, specialists explain that there are no remedies to interrupt hiccups, you just have to wait patiently for it to go away naturally. It is considered harmless for children, but if the infant has prolonged hiccups (half an hour or more) it is advisable to consult with the pediatrician to rule out that it is a digestive, respiratory or neurological problem....
