There are days when people feel like they merely exist, they seem like zombies even to themselves. I have felt like this when I lost a loved one, for months I went through the motions of living without really living my life. It was then I thought about people who live their lives like they were devoid of their spirit, just going through motions of everyday living in a daze.

The more I thought about it the more real the situation became in my mind. I could almost touch and feel their emotions or so I thought then. Have you ever been so engrossed in something that it has become more real to you than reality?

This poem was born from such deep and intense imagination that it took me a while to get out of it. Negativity can be a real prison to break out of. The prison cell of the mind is worse than the prisons in the real world. It is important to keep negativity at bay and focus on the positive.

Letting negativity fill your mind is living today with the emotions of yesterday. It is like letting darkness take away your sight in broad day light. I have always found that gratitude is the best way to think and live positively. Sometimes when you have lived in negativity long enough even freedom seems like doom, because your mind was left behind in the darkness of the past.

It is important to know that you have the power to cut through the darkness and walk into the light, you have power over your thoughts and emotions.

Incarcerated

Why have you left me, my soul?

I wait for you day after day,

Like an empty shell,

Lifeless, spiritless,

Vacant existence,

Days spent staring at the walls,

If my eyes where drills,

That would bore tunnels,

To the outside world,

Like a deer caught in the headlights,

In stillness I stand,

Waiting for that truck to hit me,

To be torn,

To be crushed,

To be told,

That I have a spirit no more,

Why have you left me my soul?

Nights run into days,

The ceiling seems bleak,

Eyes worn with sleeplessness,

Hopeful that these iron rods,

Would rust away someday,

And fall apart,

Into nothingness,

So, I could walk free,

Into a world,

So alien,

Which has moved,

ahead of me!

While I was caught up

In my incarcerated

Destiny!
