INTENSIONS

It was a sunny day when the sky was bright and the birds were flying , adding beauty to the sky.
When I checked my watch, it was 3:30pm
"Time isn't friendly in any way" I said , fixing my gaze on the road that I was about to cross.

Meanwhile , I was doing a job hunting that afternoon.
For three years now, since I graduated from the university, I haven't gotten a job yet.
Life has been so frustrating to me.
I studied urban and regional planning in school.
Job is no where to be found.
It's been two weeks now , since I started the job hunting again , after giving up for some time now.
But now, night is already doing nigh, how am I suppose to eat today?.
Rhetorically I asked .

It was late in the evening when I sat at the verandah, drinking sachet water and a strong bread that I bought from the supermarket.

For goodness sake , I didn't know that the bread was that strong and now my tooth are aching .

I woke up very early in the morning the next , so determined to get at least a cleaning job that day.

After my morning devotion. I clean the room , took my bath and I was set to go.

Going on my way, I saw on a poster"A cleaner needed urgently"
I wasted no time to dial the number that was below with my button Nokia phone.

The call was picked by a lady who introduced herself to be Alice , the receptionist.

I was told to come to work early the next day for the interview.
"How on earth did I see this today, I have been passing here for more than three weeks without seeing this, not to even talk of tomorrow that I passed here.

Thank you Lord, you have been faithful"
I was so excited that I didn't even remember to eat that night because I wasn't hungry at all.

I couldn't wait for the next day to come. I waited so long , gazing on the ceiling fan still day break .

The next morning was just so beautiful like never before to me.
I went to work ,all dressed corporately as a banker.

Moving into the office of a young lady in her late 30. She looked at me intensively..
"Good morning ma'am" I greeted almost, carried away by beauty of the office .

The architect really did a good job, I said to myself.
"Good morning young lady"
"What can I do for you?"She asked abruptly
"I'm here for the job interview ma, I said loudly and elatedly
"Oh yeah!, it almost skipped my mind.... What's your name ?"
"I'm Kate Anderson, ma'am "
"Kate?"
"Yes ma"
"Why do you need this job, if you're given this job what will you do to help the company?" She asked
"Thank you so much ma for this privilege, first of all , the reason I need this job is because , I believe that if I'm able to secure this job I will enhance the growth of this organization by putting everything in order and also keeping the whole environment neat and dirty.

"Wow, good one! What did you study in school, Kate?"
"Urban and regional planning , ma"
"Really? I studied that too"
"Wooa.."

"I'm so glad to hear this .. Many people have applied and come for interview,but none of them said what you just say, a lots of them talked about their personal ambition and goals... But you put that of the company first.... I want to congratulate you for your succession in getting this job, I must say... you salary is thirty thousand naira every month.

You are to start your work from tomorrow..
"I couldn't believe my ears, was I really hearing this ? .. Thank you so much ma'am, I'm really grateful ..
I said this curtsying....
"You're welcome my dear"

The rest of my day was so exciting... I went to work very early on the morning and I was the first to get to work that morning.

The security man was really surprised, because since he came to the organization, no one has ever done to work by that time... I was much more early than everyone has ever been.

"Ha!!! Madam , i greet you... you come too early to day oo. Wetin hapen na??".He asked using pidgin ...
"Laughs... Nothing oo"
"Our new madam , abeg wetin be your name ?"
"I'm Kate"
"Okay madam Gatee" he said pronouncing it wrongly ...
I didn't have enough time to start correcting him now..

My name na musa" he said
"Okay Musa, have a great day at work"
I said moving into the office.

I started cleaning everywhere , the surrounding, the offices , the convenience and many other rooms in the company..
I finished everything before 8:am which is the schedule time for work.

The receptionist arrived first, before every other person and the manager came last but not late .

Everyone were so surprise to see everywhere neat mad tidied up before work time..

The manager was much more impressed but didn't true to make it obvious to me.

The routine of my work was done. early before every other person, so some cleaning and wait till everyone arrived.

I noticed that the receptionist wanted to come much more earlier than me for several occasions but, she always failed because before she arrive I'll be almost done cleaning or sometimes, I'll be done.
It was towards the end of the month ,when a young ,tall, dark complexioned man walked into the office in the afternoon.

He was really attractive to me.
He looked at me and I lifted up My gaze.

He went into the office and I saw the manner that he was greeted by my co workers . By now , Musa was my gist partner if I must say that .

I walked down to him and asked him who was that, he told me that the man has been coming to the organization towards the months ends with reasons best known and could be explained by the manager.

It's five months now ,since I came to the organization , the man kept coming every month towards the ending.

My family is feeding well, my rent is well paid, I have lots of food in my store that I could consume only not a few, my siblings are now going to school.

I developed a very beautiful relationship with my co workers... We bever had issues . My manager was still keeping a close watch at me , unknown to me.

My punctuality was still intact as everyone gave up competing with me..
One day, I came to work early as usual... Entering my manager's office to clean , I noticed that they were many notes of naira on the floor..
"Was this woman trying to try me ?, sorry ma'am because I'm going to show you that I'm cleverer ... I muttered in my mind..
I picked up the notes, arrange them properly ,enveloped it and keep it on the table for her.
She came to work late , that day because she had some partnering business to do outside...
When she arrived , I greeted her and I collected her bag from her even though that wasn't my job .

When she entered the office , I dropped her bag on the table and gave her some privacies .

Shortly , she called for my attention, when I went there she asked if anyone brought something for her .. I told her I wasn't aware , but I felt that if there was any the receptionist would have notified her.

"So what is this envelope doing here??"
"Oh yes ma'am, when I was cleaning up this place today, I saw some money on the floor I had to envelope it and keep them very safe for you"
"Some money on the floor? I'm not sure I left any money here "
"But, thank you so much "
It really appeared that she was not sure if she truly misplaced her money.

It was late in the afternoon when the emergency bell rang and everybody hurried up to the hall.

I arrived first before every other person followed.
When we were complete, the manager came out with a smiling face.

"Thank you so much everyone for coming out to this emergency meeting . Today , I have decided to choose my personal secretary ammo you.

I have been here for six years now without no personal secretary.
But today I have seen one.. I was wondering who will be that lucky "..
"Put your hands together has I make welcome Kate Anderson"
"What?? I didn't see this coming, tears of joy were just protruding out of my eyes .

Thank you Jesus for honoring me" I said almost loudly.
"You have been so committed, so humble,so honest , punctual,respectful and diligent to your work. For a token of all this good features of yours, I make you my personal secretary and I'll be paying you one hundred thousand naira every month and your cleaning salary still remains thirty thousand naira...
Here is the Director of organization, she said pointing at the young man I sees everymonth ends . This reward is from him.... He had been watching you closely for some time now .
"Thank you so much sir,thank you ma'am, I said all these in tears . I'm really grateful...
I said still crying ...Blessed he that is diligent in his business , he shall stand before kings and not mean men...
