Wow, I am pleased to read this post, I am also an indigene of Ondo, it’s good to see that our culture it been told here on pob.
In addition to what you have said, I will like to explain that the new yam festival is always celebrated yearly at the end of the rainy season which which is between the later days of July and the early days of August.
This period of time is when farmers reap harvest of food and new set of yams in their farms. In Nigeria, most especially in the Yoruba land, they see pounded yam as the most respected food, when ever one is about to receive a guest of honor, it is the norms to prepare pounded yam for them to show how important that are and how well their visits are accepted.
Pounded yam, in the picture you can all see in the main post, is processed by pounding boiled yam in a mortar and pestle.
Our people have the belief that when the yam festival is been celebrated, the yams harvested throughout the year will be fat and good, this is why they celebrate the festival annually
That's right . I love our culture
