It's everyone's favourite day of the week again.
I hope that the brains aren't too overworked after reading through the posts from this past week. There has been a lot of sophisticated, high-quality content to digest. There were 60 valid entries overall and we've somewhat secured our tag position on the front end at #5. Big tasty.
Some changes to the WOTW structure to come in the following week, but before we get into that, let's see the winners...
First Place: @nonsowrites (300 POB)
Second Place: @wiseagent (200 POB)
Me, Myself & I: The dangers of being an egomaniac human being.
Third Place: @charcoalbuffet (150 POB)
Money, Big Egos And Big Responsibilities
Fourth Place: @hranhuk (100 POB)
Fifth Place: @trucklife-family (50 POB)
Merit System Results
Balance Adjustment & Contest Changes
There are no updates to the balance adjustments again this week. It has been another busy one for me and I haven't had much time to reassess the system (no promises, but fingers crossed there will be some changes next Sunday).
I'm hoping to get the engagement system up and rolling in the next couple of weeks. I'd like to set up some mild forms of automation to make the process slightly easier. Until this is set up, I'll be rewarding the top "engagers" of the week with delegations (I'll be looking closely this week).
"Tag abuse" has been added. If you misuse the tag during the week (post not relevant to the word), you'll receive a point in the tag abuse section of the grading system. If you accumulate 1 point you are DQ from the current week, 2 points you are DQ for 2 weeks, 3 points you are DQ for a month.
I'm going to work on publicising the spreadsheet so that people can follow along in real-time and see feedback while the week goes on. I think this will be more interactive and exciting, although it needs some thought and the system still has a long way to go before it's "solid".
Delegation Station
Each week winners will receive a POB delegation that will remain on their accounts (more or less) indefinitely.
Accounts that use the delegations in a productive way and assist with the growth of the platform will have the delegation converted into a solid POB stake (details still to be confirmed).
I'm still developing a system to monitor and assess how the delegation is used so I can know if and when they should be removed (abuse etc).

We have a new word each week that members of the community can share their thoughts about in a post.
Any form of content is encouraged, whether short or long-form writing, poetic, artistic, music or voice, or any other method you can develop.
The guidelines for entry to the contest are as follows;
- The post must be made on the proofofbrain.io front-end
- The post must have the pob-wotw tag added to it
- Engagement is heavily encouraged
- Entries must be posted before 00:00 UTC on 13/06/21
- Posts must clearly demonstrate what the weekly word is
- Posts shared for the following week will be disqualified if published before winners are called for the current week
- Abusing the #pob-wotw tag will result in disqualification
The word for this week is Outrageous
The prizes are the following and will be given in delegation form;
2nd place - 200 POB
3rd place - 150 POB
4th place - 100 POB
5th place - 50 POB
Prizes may vary over time dependant on support and curation rewards. Entries and comments in pob-wotw will receive upvotes based on authenticity and sincerity.
We've had some more changes to the WOTW team this week. I've reached out to @penderis and @fireguardian to help with the grading so I can direct my focus on other tasks I've got in the works.
@penderis and I ran a community called @buddyup a few years back on Steemit, where we had a contest/show called Drop in the Ocean (DITO). It was a similar premise to WOTW, but we had the voice show weekly to go through the posts and then the contestants voted on each other (we decided to not judge peoples content at the time).
I've got to know @fireguardian over the past couple of months and trust his judgement and eye for quality. He has a busy schedule, but grading the posts within a flexible time period will help lift more pressure off us overall.
I'm sending POB to @scholaris, @penderis (if he decides to help out), and @fireguardian for their efforts when grading and adding more value to the contest. I'll gauge this from the colour coded input on the spreadsheet and from additional work done.
@scholaris : 200 POB - Completed Grading Bases (this will be shared in a post sometime this week), Heavily graded posts, added and working on automation to make the process easier
@fireguardian : 20 POB - Started late this week, some grading and discussed schedules etc.
@penderis : Still awaiting confirmation about their involvement
Best of luck for the week ahead, don't forget to enjoy yourself. I'll see you in comments this week (I've said this for the past two weeks and I haven't bothered my arse, I'm full of shit but I'll try my best).
Here's my entry for this week:

Also, thanks for a detailed explanation of the parameters used for determining the winner, it ensures transparency and helps makes our posts better
And now you are here. You have an affinity towards writing contests.
And now you are here. You have an affinity towards writing contests.
Ah good to see you here!
Yes. Now where is @takefive?
You're more than welcome, I'm all about transparency and constructive feedback. Just read your post, loved it.
Thanks!
I see increasing participation in this contest and this is a big win. Congratulations to those who won, we have to learn from them, we have to learn from the best and I think that is another benefit of this contest.
Thanks to @calumam, the creator of this contest, and to those who judged and chose the best posts, helped, of course, by Merit System, which ensures an objective and transparent classification, so that each participant can see their place in the contest.
If I can make a proposal for Merit System ... I think it would be more suggestive to rank if it is shown in descending order of points (from highest score to lowest).
Excellent suggestion, I'll give that a shot on Sunday so we have a clear leaderboard for the week's end.
I'm glad if you do that, thank you!
Well, well, another exciting day for the WOTW, I came across some tag abuse while scrolling through the tag feed. But then nevertheless we had some legitimate entry and they were amazing by all means. This week's word seems tricky a bit, but then lets see how it goes.
It's always going to happen, but if we have a system in place it'll at least help people see that it's not really a productive way to use the tag.
lol finally i win something. well, i want to say thank you for the award, I greatly appreciate it. and to the other winners, congrats! would send more time curating and engaging this week. spreading the love
That is a lot of work done by @scholaris, I only did 2 and it was a wild ride!
But I'm happy to help in anyway I can, also I get to read a lot of awesome posts!!!
I'll start early this week, and try to set a time to do them. Good luck to all of ya!
Damn right. Insane work ethics and display of value. I'm well chuffed that he's come on board and set the bar so high for myself and others. True game changer.
The articles for this contest are getting more challenging. Everyone's writing is changing and becoming more sophisticated. It's amazing, actually.
I think the discussions on the metrics are ready for scrutiny by the community. I'll put something out this week to receive input. It's a living document. Like anything else in life, it can adapt. It probably will after I receive input.
I like @failingforwards' idea about trending the community. The first iteration would take some time to generate, but it's a straightforward process. It's something I'll be able to do after June.
We also had instances of plagiarism, but we worked together to understand that it wasn't malicious, but a misunderstanding of what the community expected. They edited their articles accordingly and I removed any DV I applied. POB is a two-way street imho. Only one person didn't respond after a downvote. It happens and I won't speculate on the lack of response.
When I take a step back and look back to how it began and what my aims were for the contest, I can safely say that everything is going the way I expected it to. Obviously, there are teething problems with everything, but I'm so glad that the system is in place and it's actually working. My main concern was not being able to handle an increase in posts, and now I'm starting to think we could handle upwards of 100 posts a week just with the current setup.
Make sure to tag me in, I'm eager to hear some of your thoughts.
I don't know what you do for a living but love how systematic you are and the POB delegation to POB idea. Would be cool to see how people's scores trend over time and see if they take on feedback
Sweet FA at the minute lol. I float around and help out my friends (been renovating my pals house this weekend), and I don't take life too seriously.
I like your idea. Maybe we can incorporate some kind of graphs and progress reports to show the increase or decrease in points over time. Solid feedback!
Hey Calumam, I'm going to take a mental break from Hive for a couple of weeks. The last time I did so, it ended becoming more than 10 months lol.
It has been great talking with you and thanks for all the help along the way. You have delegated 400 to me and I don't want to hog resources so please feel free to undelegate at anytime.
Hope to be back soon!
I know the feeling, lol. Well, don't be gone too long. If and when you get back, make sure to ping me a message. You're at the top of my mental list for people I trust, so if you return there will be a spot on the WOTW team for you if you're interested. Keep it in mind.
Stay safe bud, and talk soon. I'll undelegate it now so I don't forget, but thanks for letting me know, and when you get back I'll add it back for another month (I said until end of June 2021 so 1 month is close enough).
May I suggest data analyst, you have the methodology and mind for it!
Hmmm, my first instinct tells me that would bore me to tears, lol. I'm an ideas man, if I hang around for too long I end up losing interest. That's why it has been so important to get people I trust behind the wheel and taking off some of the pressure.
You all worked hard including all participants and those involved with grading and curating. I'm glad to see that scholaris, penderis and fireguardian may help out in the grading also. It's too hard for one person this work and I hope that @penderis can join you. His warped sense of reality will really help out when considering perspective.
The spreadsheet is helpful and gives a realistic expectation of what to look for when grading. It also helps the writer what to keep in mind. I better read it before I start next time. What also helps is to read a few of the winning posts from last week to have a feel for the format expected.
Congratulations to @nonsowrites.^^
He writes in a very clear and simple fashion. In a few words he included the main point at question the ego and even included an exact example from his life. He used pictures that were created with Bitmoji but they were personalized and pertinent. Each picture helped with the flow of the reading like picture subtitles. Awesome. It also proves that a post can be relatively short but still have kick.
The #POB-WOTW tag is curated heavily. I like it because we can discuss with others about the WOTW but I think curators need to be careful not to just upvote every post in WOTW, especially if the post has nothing to do with the contest.
Again, thanks again for your hard work @calumam. I'm really glad to see you distribute the work with some decent people.
Peace
@mineopoly
Ahh, another poor soul who has graced @penderis' presence... lol, he's a good pal (I'd say) and has shared his point of view with me for many decisions/ideas I've made over the years. It's always nice to have a bit of yin and yang going on.
I agree. I've been a bit more reserved in my voting of WOTW posts lately because there are so many and also because I want to focus on spreading the votes out across the whole platform, not just within the WOTW community (it would be so easy to spend my votes on WOTW solely, there are so many good posts).
That's it. People I trust and somewhat understand. I have no worries about raising criticisms or starting discussion with these guys.
My participation is kind of cringe worthy: https://www.proofofbrain.io/hive-150329/@felipejoys/come-figure-out-the-outrageous-bystander-in-this-contest
A lot of great contents! Congratulations everyone who participate! It's been a great exercise to me. Now, the new word is very complex to create... Let's study ideas hehe
Glad to hear that the brain cogs are spinning! I'm starting to think more about the words used each week, it has some serious influence on the platform. I've got a great word to come after "Exotic", I think it's going to spice up the place.
Well, here my entry, friend.

Wo0t wo0t another fantastic contest. Ill jump into this one. I notice the challenging cant comment on anyone whose posted or get disqualified is gone.
Well done, makes it easier 🤣
Oh yes, lol. But it definitely will return! That experience was a real eye-opener for me and I feel like little social experiments like that bring tonnes of value to the contest.
Congratulations to all winners and winning participants(others), wishing us progress ahead in our future posts. I must commend the relentless efforts of the initiator and moderators of this awesome contest. Welcoming everyone to the new word of the week "outrageous" and stay safe.
Huge props go to @scholaris, he pulled the cat out of the bag during the past week. I said in another comment that he's raising the bar for myself, and I am loving that.
yeah, @scholaris has been really awesome and diligent in his tasks and likewise you the initiator. So you both deserves an accolade. Kudos 🍹

I just made an attempt to draw the ranking for those who received the delegations from @calumam account. This is the list with ranks.
@wiseagent ranks the best in the rich-list with 24th Rank.
Wow! That's great!
Many Congratulations to all the participants. Last week was tough (outrageous) for me yet I managed to participate. Thanks for the support everyone, lovin' it. 🍕
Entries are growing each week and it's great to see. This contest is the major reason I log into https://www.proofofbrain.io/
Fingers crossed for this week. 🤞
Boo yaa! The best compliment you could give.
You deserve it @calumam. ✌
You have really taken the WOTW to the next level mate, well done:)
Cheers mate, slow and steady wins the race. I might do something special for next weeks contest since it'll be week 10.
Thanks, folks. Congrats to all the other winners.
Ideas are already popping into my mind with this new word.
P.S.: @calumam, what you are doing with this contest is on another level. Great work!
Much appreciated @wiseagent. It's such a pleasure to see the contest, the people, and the platform grow. You can't buy that.
well done to all the participants and winners and contest organizers and graders!
am happy to see that i scored reasonably well. i have noted where i can make improvements, thanks for being so open with the metric!
Not a problem, I just hope nobody takes offence when graded lower points. It's always a subjective point of view and shouldn't be seen as 100% "fact". So far so good though, lots of high-quality content is being produced.
the only concern i have there is that there are now multiple people judging, that will have their own opinions, and might judge the same post differently. but having numbers to compare against the posts is helpful, even if subjective.
my numbers were very instructive, and i happen to (not too begrudgingly) agree with the assessment.
Thank you very much for the prize and running the competition. Also a big thank you to scholaris, fireguardian and penderis for all the effort to process everything and keeping things running smoothly. Looks like a sustainable setup for bigger and better things to come.
Congratulations to the winners
I am looking forward to getting back on the saddle this week as I was a little pre-occupied last week.
Great to see the interest growing in the wotw and so many taking part
We aren't going anywhere, do your thing and enjoy yourself.
Sure will respect dude
Wow congratulations to all winners, good to see my brother came out first place.

Congratulations to all winners, I had an outrageous week last week so I couldn’t create time to make a post but this week I am 100% in. Thanks @calcumam for the new word and opportunity to engage.
Outrageous is a very touchy word. My entry shows how I see the world and how I'm unsatisfied seeing what's happening in it ! It's outrageous to see !.
Ooh nice, we did not do too bad last week....with Ego....we gonna have to think of something outrageous to do this week....mmmm....thinking! Well done to all the winners and everyone who entered!
ok having given it some more thoughts we are going to have to enter via song.....hope this is ok?
Loved writing my post this week, came truly from my heart. I am so outraged at the moment, LOL.
