Greetings everyone.

Let's do something fun today, share a funny proverb that they say in your community and give us the meaning.

I'll go first. I get am before no be property

Simply means you can't keep holding on to past glory, do something in the present.

My tribal people use to say this proverb that who want to eat with the evil spirit should use ten metre spoon.

It simple mean If you are dealing with oga someone need to be ten time ahead of them in reasoning .

Posted via proofofbrain.io

😂😂Why would anyone want to eat with an evil spirit. The proverb is a good one though, if you must you have to be smarter

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Lol
Is true anything that will make you eat with the devil it is not a good thing

That saying is in English too - "If you wish to sup with the Devil, use a long spoon".

Hahaha
The most funniest proverb have seen here.
I usually hear this proverb too.
But I really don't know the meaning

Hahahahahh you are bringing spoons for the evil spirits because I think they don't shave spoons...🤣 🤣

Posted via proofofbrain.io

I think you are from Yoruba tribe

Because the spoon that devil do use is so big.
so if you don't want the devil to cheat you you to take a bigger spoon

The proverb was funny but the meaning of the proverb speaks a lot and as a lot of meaning.
If you did not get off past glories you will not be able to do something good in the future

Past glory might probably destroy you and make you not to look for the because you will be thinking that you have arrived and you have not yet achieve anything compared to what you should have and what you are going through achieve but if you see it with past glories it might be an obstacle to foutch's glory

I don’t agree with that. It doesn’t matter if your past was glorified or not. Your present greatly depends on your actions in the present.

If you have had a great past, it will help
You build a good present future but it’s a very small part of it. Mostly its our present that decides for us.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

I agree that's why they advice not to hold on to who you were in the past or what you have achieved in the past because it is the present that matters. Therefore you have to also be in the present and do meaningful things in the present. Although it's good to reminisce on the past don't stay there for too long

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Past glories can make you relent and make you think you have achieved not knowing there are more to achieve in the future.
And past glories can also help you if you use it positively,it will encourage you to do more

perfectly said mate the more you believe you have make the more you will stop to grow and work harder

Yeah that's the thing about proverbs some may be funny but has deep meanings.

Share a proverb you know.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

I hope you will love the proverb I said

Yes I do, it's a nice one. I'm learning some new proverbs

Posted via proofofbrain.io

of course I love this topic which you brought up today you have given us chance to give more engagements and to enjoy this community today

Thank you! we all do our part everyday.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

you are welcome even I should be the one to thank you more for bringing up the topic

Past glories will destroy your future if you still hold unto it.
Past glory can also help you by giving you faith and believing in yourself self

That's true everything has an advantage and disadvantages

That's nature of everything.
It's only God that does not have a disadvantages

hmmm this is very meaningful proverb, what is past is for the past, you have to work for a new one. alot of people bragg about their past position and it will blind fold them that they wont be able to seek for a new one

Just like Manchester United fans
They too much do brag about their past glories and achiement

Lol
I think you are a Chelsea fan
Why will you just insult Manchester United fans do it true that Manchester United fans do brag about their past glory too much

It's not a lie na
Manchester United have not won any trophies since 4 years.
But they will start talking about how their ancestors won trophies

Yeah, that is true. It's good not to let the past blind us to what needs to be done now

Posted via proofofbrain.io

that is it mama

I think more we hold onto the past, the more we are going to struggle adjusting to the future. That is another thing that I have personally noticed.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Your past should never decides your future.
Leave past glories behind and step up for next level

let's leave the past in the past what is past is behind we should be looking forward for new thing

Yes you should work presently and hope for better things in the future

that is it and I pray God grants us a brighter future

Amen
It's only God that can make our future fruitful

Yeah , we should let our past be in the past and focus in the present. That way the past wont hinder our future success.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Those who bark, don’t bite.

It means people may say a lot of words, but they don’t really know how to put themselves on action and so no matter what they say, it doesn’t do any good to them.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Lol this makes a lot of sense. Some people are all words and no actions

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Action speaks louder than voice.
Some people will be bragging on what they can't do

Yes ooh so Also show me your friend and I wil tell you who you are .

Posted via proofofbrain.io

But this does not apply to every situation.
Sometime my friend does not define me
Just suggesting

action goes a long way than our voice an example of such person is Cristiano Ronaldo he said it in his speech recently on his Instagram post he said the that is action mostly do the speaking

Cristiano Ronaldo what a great example to use
Anytime is opposition mock him he mostly will not reply him but that much he might score hatrick and shut them up

I really love him for that he's a Man of action

I love leo messi more

they are both great players

개천에서 용 난다 – Gae-cheon-es-eo yong nan-da
Gae-cheon = tiny mountain stream
es-eo = from
yong = dragon
nan-da = appears

Literally => A dragon appears from a tiny stream.

In the orient a dragon is a great creature of blessing. All the stories about dragons talk about them coming from the depths of the sea. There are no stories about dragons coming from shallow mountain streams.

When someone says, "Gae-cheon-es-eo yong nan-da" or "here is a dragon from a tiny stream", it means that a great human being has arisen from among very humble circumstances. Just as unexpected and astonishing as it is to see a dragon rising from a tiny stream so is a great man or woman with humble beginnings.

This is the story of Jesus Christ
He was born in a small town Bethlehem and his mother Mary and earthly father a low man carpenter but
Jesus is now called LORD since 2000yrs till now

The Kungfu panda picture didn't fool you. It's an ancient proverb in Asia. The greatest one came from the most humble.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

All I know about kungfu panda is that it's a cartoon movie

The cartoon movie is very interesting and I love it.

I like this one. We have a lot of great humans from humble beginning

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Yes ooh not now that we have human without humanity.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

I swear
This generation is so cursed.
It's in the olden days that we have people with humility but nowadays there is nothing like humility anymore

the principle of life is that if you humble yourself if you will surely be lifted, but if you refuse you will surely fall, even the Bible says that God salutes the humble but stay away from the pride

You're right on this one. Humility will take us where pride can't take us

Posted via proofofbrain.io

yes humility all the way

Blessed are the humble for they shall inherit the Earth

Wow that's beautifuland interesting. To our dear @mineopoly - "Gae-cheon-es-eo yong nan-da" 🙏😊
You are the humble dragon, keep flying and let the fire burn all darkness around you. !PIZZA

Hello @blezyn i like this your proverb stuff,

There is a proverb in my local language that say.
"I senior him/her will only make you go hungry"

Meaning : undervaluing someone just because of age difference between you and the person will only make you not benefiting from him or her. Just because you senior someone by age dose not means you can not seek the person assistance provided he or she is in a position to help.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Yes it has a lot of meaning
Don't just ignore anyone. Just because you are better or older than that person.
Your help might be in the hand of the person you are belittling

Hahaha, quite funny, I have never heard this one before but there is so much truth in it. Sometimes it is ego that makes the older not want to seek help from the younger but we always have to remember God can decide to bless us via any channel, we shouldn't miss that blessing for petty reasons.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

😊😊 they will be like kids of yesterday .

Posted via proofofbrain.io

this proverb is not only speaking about age difference but also speaking about levels and ranking, some people believe if they are higher than you in any level or in rank in any area they believe they can't learn from you

It is true some people think they are above learning especially when it's coming from someone with a lower rank. At the end of the day they are the one missing out on good stuff

Posted via proofofbrain.io

exactly you understand what I'm saying even if you're a boss in a working place you can learn from your apprentice, or you are a leader in a place you can learn from people coming behind you

Indeed! There's a saying that the wisest men are those who never stop learning!

Posted via proofofbrain.io

yes the wisest one accumulate knowledge and won't stop learning but only the foolish believed they have arrived

This means don't underrate anyone because of age or status or position.
Because the person might have what you don't have or what you need

Wahala be like bicycle..

Wonders shall never end.. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Posted via proofofbrain.io

wahala be like keke napep

Wahala be like moi moi

Greetings blezyn. Quite an interesting and deep proverb right there. Let me try out my pidgin. Na condition wey make cray fish bend

It simply means familiarity breeds contempt' or 'How the mighty have fallen'

Posted via proofofbrain.io

That means situation can turn you to anything.
Some people are what they are because of what they have faced or their situation in the past.
Some people will conclude that all men are the same because of what he faced situation have bend that person

Yeah. Been in certain situation can make one learn to accept certain things. People often get shaped to what they are due to what they encountered along the way. We have to conform to certain pattern due to how and where life put us at.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

😂😂 your pidgin is on point where did you learn it?

Although your proverb is also used to represent a situation where one has to conform to a certain way because of some certain challenge they face. Some people say na condition make crayfish bend to mean if I had a choice I wouldn't be in this position right now.

familiarity breeds contempt is also what we refer to as see finish

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Learnt it from my visit to Benin, Edo state some years years ago. The pidgin language seems funny when spoken. I believe you even gave a better rendition of the translation than me.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Wow, you've been to Benin, that's where I'm from! That's why your pidgin is good, the pidgin there and the one in Rivers state is way more concrete than you hear in other states.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Wow that's cool. I always love the Edo/benin people and their sense of humour. Very true also think the delta state people also have quite a funny one if not the best one has I think the pidgin language all originated from there. might be wrong on this one though

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Lol Benin and Delta were once living together as a people, there were referred to as Bendel then. Until they separated into different states. So basically the language belongs to the two state but the accent and slangs are different depending on the state.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Alright. You seem to know a lot about the origin. Great to now know this. Thanks for the history :-)

Posted via proofofbrain.io

when a bum bum is spoilt it will be for the owner of the bum bum, the meaning of this proverb is that if anything bad happens to you, you will be the one to take care of it.

it is a kind of Yoruba proverb I don't know if you are from Nigeria and Yoruba tribe you will understand

Posted via proofofbrain.io

That's lovely first time I'm hearing it though. Yoruba people really have nice proverbs.

There's also one that's similar that my mom taught me but in pigdin who shit no dey remember the smell na who pack am go remember

Meaning it's only those who suffered the consequences of an action that can totally relate to how it felt

Posted via proofofbrain.io

The best tribe you can find the best proverb is Yoruba

Well I know yorubas have nice proverbs but I don't know if they have the best. We have to hear from other tribes first

Posted via proofofbrain.io

What tribe are you from?
But I do respect Yoruba elders.
they are full of Proverbs even in their words. The awards are always full of proverb.
And I also like their culture their culture is full of respect

I'm from the Bini tribe. The yorubas are fond of saying proverbs, I guess it's because it's what they are used to

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Bini tribe from which country

yes I also know about this proverb I hear it a lot I am a typical Yoruba man so I know a lot of proverb

That's nice. Maybe you'll share some more

Posted via proofofbrain.io

i would love to share more but i want to go to bed

i will continue tomorrow

To idi ba baje , to nidi ni nda
That's a very funny proverb but the bitter truth of life

of course that is how it is it shows that if you are a great indigenous Yoruba person. you really understand it as you have said it is a bitter truth

I don't understand this proverb because am an Igbo man
But I understand the meaning

Yeah I'm proudly in Yoruba person knowledgeable boy.
And I'm proud of my tribe.

beeni omo yoruba lawa

We are proudly yorubas

of course i am also proud of it

"Once Bitten, Twice Shy"

Meaning - An Unpleasant Experience induces caution.
This happens with me all time, I mostly learn the hard way in life by failing first time but I prepare for next time and make sure it doesn't happen again.
Its the reality though, if you have bad experience with something you will get alert to try same mistake again, it's something good and necessary too. 😊🙏 !PIZZA

Yeah
Your mistake means a lot if you can learn from it and avoid it next time.
I also had some experience in which I failed but learn from and make more preparation.

Its the reality though, if you have bad experience with something you will get alert to try same mistake again, it's something good and necessary too

I agree with you, personally I try to take caution as a result of other people getting bitten, I don't know if I make sense. Basically I like to try and avoid some mistakes based on what it has done to other people.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

I also know about this proverb after every unpleasant situation you have to caution yourself so it won't repeat itself
