It is a novel by Khaled Hosseini that portrays the lives of two Afghan women, and the oppression and suppression of women's rights in the country during the Taliban's advance and rule in Afghanistan.
The first protagonist is Miriam, who grew up having to deal with the harsh and cruel truths told by her mother and with her father's rejection. She was forced to marry very young to a bitter widower, who at first was kind, but began to mistreat her as soon as he realized she wasn't getting pregnant, blaming her. And with that, he began to mistreat her and subject her to physical torture and daily humiliation.

The second protagonist is Laila, a teenager full of dreams. She was raised in a welcoming home, with parents who always encouraged her independence and education. Until his life fell apart, he lost his family in a bombing raid. So she finds herself lost and pregnant with her teenage boyfriend. Given the situation, Laila accepts the proposal of Rashid (Miriam's husband) to become his second wife.

With that, the story will take place in how these women had their voices silenced and their freedom suppressed, where they unite in pain and difficulty and resist day after day. It will also show the cultural, religious and political changes during the Taliban's advance and domination.

What's up? Interested in the story? Comment if you have read or what you think!
As soon as I finish reading I'll tell you what I thought of the end!
