Self introduction to Agricultural Mindset community & virtual garden tour

in Agricultural Mindset4 years ago (edited)

In a bid to slow down from the hamster wheel that is urban life, I forced myself to take on a hobby that did not bring me money but brought me extreme joy, forced me to switch off and reminded me of my childhood. I had to commit to doing it for an hour everyday. How it's going..

Hi everyone,

My name is Jean from Kenya. In the middle of lockdown, I moved from an apartment to a place that has a good mix of urban and rural life. I grow house plants, vegetables and fruits.

My Journey

Becoming a plant mom has been so healing and rewarding.. Sometimes plants die and dry up, others flourish and teach you what they need, others get attacked by pests and you have to look for solutions... All this activity is so healing ( for me).
Being able to take minutes/hours tending to my garden and potted plants, especially on weekends, has taught me mindfulness.
I'm so used to having my thoughts racing day in day out as I type and stare at screens all day.
Having a hobby that makes me chill is so good for my soul.

Why I am so excited to join the Agricultural Mindset community

After coming back to hive and realizing that there are communities, I started searching for those communities that I would relate to. This happened to be one of the first ones I joined. I have had so much fun going through the posts to see what everyone is doing. I am so glad that this group exists. What I see are people sharing what they are doing in their farm/ gardens and other people offering support and suggestions. Thanks @mattsanthonyit

My little garden

I do not have the largest garden but I have a small backyard where I can grow plants I like. Here are some of the edible plants I am growing.

1. Strawberry

I just had my first harvest in March.

2. Tomatoes

I never knew I'd grow such lovely tomatoes from food scraps. I just threw some spoilt tomatoes in the soil weeks ago.. 3rd frame is cherry

8. Spinach & collard

I still get excited every time I get fresh greens from my little garden. The rains make them extra crispy...
