I am Minerva Figueredo, born in Valencia-Venezuela, on August 11, 1980, I am 41 years old, I am a single mother and the oldest of 7 siblings. After a while we moved to Ciudad Bolivar, we left all the paternal and maternal family in Valencia and we went to start a new life.
I studied in Mérida my high school from 1st to 5th grade in a beautiful place called "San Javier del Valle Grande Fe y Alegría" and part of my primary education in another school "Fe y Alegría La Inmaculada" in Ciudad Bolivar.
When I finished my high school studies, I continued in the "Instituto Universitario Experimental de Tecnologia y Agricultura Simón Bolívar" where I got a 100% scholarship for being a good student. As this institute is part of the United World College there were other kids from different parts of the world such as Trinidad & Tobago, Africa, Canada, Norway among others and this cultural exchange motivated me to learn English.
It was a wonderful and enriching experience on a personal level. There I obtained my university degree as "Agricultural Business Administrator" but, it is English that I started to like. After graduating I decided to go to Margarita Island to work and that is where I found the opportunity to travel out of the country for three years.
In 2005 I had my first child and in 2011 my second child, both are my two princes and are my boys. Unfortunately I had no luck with the parents of my children how to make a home as it should, I am a single mother and my two children are the ones that inspire me to look for good options to generate money to cover the basic needs, although it has not been easy for a single mother with two children and less in this country where the situation is getting worse every day, so is Venezuela.
For the past three years I have been working at the school where my children study, I am an undergraduate teacher in English; I am opting for the title of teacher in comprehensive education, since in this city they do not give English as a solo career. I am studying at Upel, so I show my children that learning and growing by oneself is rewarding and no one will take it away since it is one's own.
I have been self-taught to overcome obstacles and to survive I have worked as an assistant accountant, independent guide of national tourism, I have sold Avon products, Herbalife, Amway, personal care products, funeral services, directed tasks for children in the neighborhood, selling hot dogs, I worked as maintenance personnel in the company 3M and in a shopping center.
In addition, I took a course in English, cooperatives, hospitality, computers, personal growth and others that will guide me to find my forte. I like tourism very much but I could not study it to practice it. In the administrative field I have my 5 years of experience and I did not continue because it was like slavery and my boss was the one who enjoyed life to the fullest and it did not seem fair that I was from 7 to 5 in an office and my children alone at home. For this reason I am with my children at school at noon, I go to work with them and I leave the same way they do; because family comes first.
I am as a teacher and I discovered that I like interacting with students and feedback, that's why I am in my graduate teacher training. It is a constant learning with my students and with my children as well every day. Currently as a student at UPEL I feel and notice how it is to study in this new system and in these conditions of the country, perceiving that growing and learning is something expensive for many factors such as food, transportation and others. This is a reflection of a country in decline.
In my role as a teacher I can tell you that it is very enriching, and as a mother of my two children I am a very dedicated person. Things at home have not been easy, since I am the one who works to bring the food, pay the bills and cover the basic needs of my children and myself. My salary as a teacher is not very motivating that is why I am looking for options to help me; the prices of food and buying water is the biggest expense I have at home, that does not include the other things.
Since the pandemic things have changed a lot, the teaching method, school activities, communications, people. For example, I have seen my students working in the street to help with their household expenses and this is not what I don't want for my children.
Daily, I ask God in my prayers for an improvement in our lives, especially for the health of my children, family, friends and myself since I am the breadwinner of my home. I know that perseverance, dedication, determination and desire to improve can take people where they want to go. I instill good values for my children and students so that they can be good citizens, especially my sons so that they can be good men, respectful, honest, honest and hardworking as a contribution to their lives in this society evolves in this way.
I like to Cook and photographing nature.
In my free time with my children we go to the park, we watch movies and anime, read, color, among other things. I like cooking, coloring, drawing (I'm learning), I love nature because it's wonderful and I'm passionate about photography. I always investigate the why of something, I'm always curious. I like reading a lot and because of my job it is already a good habit that I have and that I teach to my children. That's why I read a lot about historical, cultural and scientific backgrounds, poems, innovations in cooking and others.
I would like to share in my blog recipes, drawings, photographs of nature and other genres, write poetry, poems, thoughts, reflections and stories and extraordinary experiences that leave a teaching or moral.
Grateful to God in the first place for life, for my children and my family. To my friend @luisaular for telling me about this platform where talent is rewarded, besides being able to share skills and experiences with others and make friends.
