Todo comienza el 25 de noviembre del 2020.

Ese día acompaño a mi novia a sacarse la cédula (tarjeta de identificación nacional).

Nos levantamos bien temprano, armamos un pequeño bolso con unos sándwiches y un poco de agua.

Llegamos al SAIME (oficina de identificación nacional) a eso de las 6:20 de la mañana.

Ya había bastante gente y empezamos a buscar a la persona encargada de llevar la lista. ¡Para nuestra sorpresa a ella le toca el número 637!

Pasamos calor, hambre, sed, nos mojamos en la lluvia, a mi novia le dió fiebre...

Estuvimos a punto de irnos, pero esa odisea solo se haría una vez cada 10 años. Así que nos quemados.

Hasta que por fin a las 9:20 de la noche aproximadamente salimos de ese calvario.

A esa hora ya no había transporte así que retornamos a nuestro hogar caminando. (Afortunadamente no era tan lejos, unos 15 minutos a pie)

Esa noche solo teníamos ánimos para comer, darnos una buena ducha y dormir.

Al día siguiente a mi novia empieza a darle una tos seca muy fuerte con fiebre bastante elevada. (Debe ser la insolación, pensé).

Pasan los días y los síntomas persisten.
Al 3er o 4to día empieza a presentar dificultades para respirar y luego de una pequeña discusión (ella no quería ir) decidimos ir a un centro asistencial para que la atiendan.

On the 3rd or 4th day she begins to have breathing difficulties and after a little discussion (she did not want to go) we decided to go to a health center to be treated.

Nos vamos a eso de las 3 de la tarde a tal centro, lugar donde esperamos por unos 20 minutos hasta que fue atendida.
La atención fue bastante amena, le hicieron un par de preguntas y revisiones de rutina. obviamente también le hicieron la prueba del COVID.

We left at around 3 in the afternoon to that center, where we waited for about 20 minutes until she was treated.
The attention was quite pleasant, they asked him a couple of questions and routine check-ups. obviously, they also tested him for COVID.

La doctora empieza a caminar de un lado a otro y nosotros como buenos pacientes, esperamos pacientemente.

The doctor begins to walk from one side to the other and we, as good patients, wait patiently.

Al cabo de unos 15 minutos aproximadamente la doctora nos llama y nos dice "La prueba salió positivo, activo"
Como no es curiosa mi novia (y agradezco que sea así) le pide que por favor nos muestre la prueba.
Le damos un corto vistazo y ella nos dice que allí están claramente las marcas positivas.

After approximately 15 minutes the doctor calls us and says "The test came out positive, active"
As my girlfriend is not curious (and I appreciate that it is so) she asks her to please show us the proof.
We take a short look at her and she tells us that the positive marks are clearly there.

Nosotros nos vemos las caras como queriendo decir, ¿tú ves algo? (No veíamos ninguna marca) En ese momento ella procede a decirle a mi novia y cito textualmente "yo me imagino que no quieres internarte" (¿Honestamente quien lo quiere? ¿Después de tantas historias y desinformación al respecto?). Lo que mi novia le responde que si no es necesario No. pensamos, ok, no es tan grave.

(We did not see any marks) At that moment she proceeds to tell my girlfriend and I quote verbatim "I imagine you don't want to intern" (Honestly, who wants it? After so many stories and misinformation about it?). What my girlfriend replied that if it is not necessary No. We think, ok, it is not so serious.

Ella procede a redactar una nota donde mi novia firma que se está yendo del centro bajo su responsabilidad, y que no puede hacerle alguna receta o algo al respecto. Simplemente nos da las recomendaciones verbalmente y nos entrega un par de órdenes para unas pruebas de hematología completa y la gota gruesa para descartar el paludismo.

She proceeds to write a note where my girlfriend signs that she is leaving the center under her responsibility, and that she cannot make her a prescription or something about it. He just gives us the recommendations verbally and gives us a couple of orders for a full hematology test and the test to rule out malaria.

En ese momento vamos al laboratorio a qué se realice la prueba de la gota gruesa. Mientras que la hematología completa debía hacerse al día siguiente en ayunas.

Esa noche empezamos a buscar por internet como son las pruebas rápidas de covid y cómo funcionan. (quedamos con la duda del resultado de la prueba)

Al día siguiente, temprano en la mañana nos dirigimos nuevamente al centro asistencial para que le hagan la prueba de hematología completa.
Ese trayecto fue bastante angustiante, la fatiga, el dolor de pecho y la falta de aire estaban más acentuados esa mañana.

The next day, early in the morning, we went back to the health center for a complete hematology test.
That journey was quite distressing, fatigue, chest pain and shortness of breath were more pronounced that morning.

Al llegar al laboratorio la bioanalista de turno nos comenta que por ser fin de semana solo atiende emergencias, además que la orden del examen tenía fecha del día anterior. Le explicamos que ayer no se le realizó ese examen porque debía hacerse en ayunas y nos dijeron que fuéramos ese día. Para lo que nos contestó que fuéramos a dónde la doctora nuevamente y nos realizará otra orden dónde diga urgente.

Upon arriving at the laboratory, the bioanalyst on duty tells us that since it is a weekend she only attends to emergencies, in addition that the order for the examination was dated the day before. We explained that the test was not performed yesterday because it had to be done on an empty stomach and they told us to go that day. For which he answered us to go to the doctor again and it will make another order where she says urgent.

¡Ya la cosa empieza a frustrarnos, el cansancio era cada vez más evidente y la falta de aire se notaban aún más!
Cómo pudimos bajamos al consultorio de la doctora que nos atendió el día anterior.

Para nuestra sorpresa nos recibe con un regaño, ¡Súbete el tapabocas! Le dice a mi novia (solo tenía la nariz descubierta porque no podía respirar bien) ella se lo sube y procedemos a explicarle lo que nos dijo la bioanalista. Nos hace una orden nueva con la fecha de ese día Y me la entrega. le pedimos que si puede hacer uno para que se nebulice, debido a que se le dificultaba mucho respirar.

Para nuestra sorpresa nos dice. "Tú te fuiste bajo tu responsabilidad y no puedo darte ninguna orden ni te puedo tratar, además, ¡si te mando a nebulizar vas a contagiar a todos allá arriba!"

Subimos nuevamente al laboratorio le entregamos la orden y la bioanalista nos vuelve a decir que debe decir urgente, no es solo cambiar la fecha.
Ya estábamos bastante molestos por tan malos tratos.

We go up to the laboratory again, we give her the order and the bioanalyst tells us again that she must say urgent, it is not just changing the date.
We were already quite upset by such mistreatment.

Nuevamente bajo a qué la doctora, está vez yo solo y dejó a mi novia junto al laboratorio.
Le digo que por favor le coloque urgente al papel para que le puedan hacer la hematología. ¡La cuál responde que no! ¡Que ella firmó una constancia dónde se iba bajo su responsabilidad, y que ella debía ser hospitalizada!

I went back down to the doctor, this time by myself and left my girlfriend next to the laboratory.
I tell her please urgently place in the order so they can do hematology. But answer no! That a certificate had been signed where she was going under her responsibility, and that she should be hospitalized!

¡En ese momento me hervía la sangre! Ella nunca le dijo que debía ser hospitalizada, simplemente nos dijo que cumpliéramos el tratamiento en casa.

¡Subo bastante enojado y con ganas de mandarles saludos a su mamá! (No suelo caer en ese tipo de cosas, no me gusta gastar mi energía en esas acciones).

Recojo el resultado de la gota gruesa que le habían realizado el día anterior (salió negativo para paludismo). Y en ese momento llamo a una doctora vecina y muy amiga (gracias doctora Acosta).

I collect the result of the malaria test that has been done the day before (it was negative for malaria). And at that moment I called a neighboring doctor and a very good friend (thank you, Dr. Acosta).

Le comento la situación y me dice que la lleve lo antes posible al hospital, que en el centro centinela nos atenderán sin chistar.
Para ese instante ya eran alrededor de las 9am de un sábado.
Nos regresamos a la casa, desayunamos algo y nos fuimos al hospital.

We went back home, had something to eat for breakfast, and went to the hospital.

En el autobús de camino al hospital la cosa empieza a empeorar.
La fiebre se le dispara y la tos se hace más irreverente.
Ella como puede, intenta no toser, a la vez que intenta buscar aire (no podía respirar).

On the bus on the way to the hospital things started to get worse.
The fever shoots up and the cough becomes more irreverent.

Se me eriza la piel cada vez que lo recuerdo.

My skin crawls every time I remember it.

Al bajar del autobús empezamos a caminar hacia el área de atención de covid. No pudo caminar más de 50 metros, es allí cuando se derrumba entre mis brazos.
No sabía qué hacer, la cargo durante unos 20 metros y veo a unos guardias nacionales sentados en la entrada del hospital como a unos 200 metros. Estuve a punto de llamarlos para que me ayudaran.

When we got off the bus, we started walking towards the covid care area. He couldn't walk more than 50 meters, that's when he collapses in my arms.
I didn't know what to do, I carry her for about 20 meters and I see some national guards sitting at the entrance of the hospital about 200 meters away. I was about to call them to help me.

En ese momento @rosi08 me toma de la mano fuertemente, con los ojos llorosos me dice "bebé yo puedo".

Vaya valentía y fortaleza la de esa bella mujer. Aun agarrándola fuertemente la ayudo a incorporarse, y poco a poco comenzamos a caminar, ese trayecto desde la entrada del hospital hasta la sala centinela me pareció eterno.

What courage and strength that beautiful woman has. Even holding her tightly, I help her to stand up, and little by little we began to walk, that journey from the hospital entrance to the sentinel room seemed eternal.

Una vez dentro, nos atienden rápidamente, la examinan y le hacen las preguntas de rutinas. Una vez más le hacen la prueba rápida de COVID.

Once inside, they attend us quickly, examine her and ask her routine questions. Once again they do the rapid COVID test.

¡Adivinen! ¡Esta vez el resultado es NEGATIVO!

Guess what! This time the result is NEGATIVE!

Mientras la nebulizan le pedimos por favor que nos muestre la prueba. ¿Y qué creen?
Estaba exactamente igual a la primera prueba que le hicieron en el centro asistencial.

It was exactly the same as the first test they did in the health center.

Le contamos la historia a los doctores presentes, y Hasta ahora no sabemos porque la doctora que la examinó por primera vez dijo que estaba contagiada con covid.

We told the story to the doctors present, and so far we do not know why the doctor who examined her for the first time said that she was infected with covid.

La atención en el hospital fue fenomenal (a pesar de las condiciones).
Le entregaron la mascarilla con la que se nebulizó, el recetario con el tratamiento y el diagnóstico...
... Bronquitis aguda!!

En los días siguiente pude conseguir el tratamiento completo (menos mal tenía un dinerito guardado).

In the following days I was able to get the full treatment (thank goodness I had a little money saved).

Al pasar los días fue mejorando, gracias a los medicamentos y la atención brindada a tiempo.

As the days went by, he improved, thanks to the medications and the care provided on time.

Ya han pasado unos meses desde ese evento que nos puso a prueba como pareja.
Y me pone a reflexionar en esas personas que de verdad están pasando por el covid, las condiciones en que se encuentra el sistema de salud nacional, y en el personal médico que a pesar de las circunstancias están trabajando con las uñas (los buenos médicos, porque como nos dimos cuenta también hay malos).

It's been a few months since that event that put us to the test as a couple.
And it makes me reflect on those people who are really going through the covid, the conditions in which the national health system is, and on the medical personnel who despite the circumstances are working with their nails (the good doctors, because as we realized there are also bad ones).
