My happy season - It’s Chestnut timeeee

in GEMS2 months ago (edited)

I love this part of the month sooo much…. it’s timeeee for chestnuts! (Is that even the right word? 🤔 Who cares, you get me!)

I’ve been working like crazy these past few days. No time for me, no time for treats, no time for anything fun. But October? October is chestnut season, baby. And eating those warm, toasty little nuggets of happiness is my absolute favorite thing.

That smell… ohhh the smell! 😍 Luckily, my company is pretty awesome, and today we had a little “chestnut party” for the employees. Our boss asked who wanted to help and who wanted to just chill at the station. Guess what I said?

Of course….“I’ll help crack the chestnuts!”😂 (And wow, that sounds so weird in English, right? But you know what I mean!)

Anyway, chestnuts are basically autumn’s little gift to humanity. They’re a cozy, delicious delicacy that somehow makes life better. Best enjoyed outdoors, with good company, maybe a glass of apple cider… or in my case, a big warm cup of mulled wine. But hey, if you can’t go outside, you can totally make them at home too! There are three ways: roasted in the oven, roasted in a pan, or boiled.

Still, nothing beats the ones cooked outside. Mmmmmm ❤️❤️ When I was a kid, we used to pick them in the forest and roast them together as a family. The smell, the smoke, the laughter…. pure nostalgia!

Okay, okay, but let me tell you how to make them properly, because I’m basically a chestnut master now. 😂

First, if you pick them from the forest, let them dry in the sun a bit, then keep them in a box in a cool place for a day or two. Before roasting, you have to cut a little slit in each chestnut…on both sides. There are two reasons: one, so they don’t explode like mini grenades in your oven (true story 😅), and two, so they’re easier to peel later.

People have different cutting styles, some make little crosses, others poke holes with forks, and some just slice them straight across. The key is to cut through the shell but not too deep, or you’ll end up with chestnut crumbs instead of chestnuts. And if you find any soft or holey ones… toss them out. They’re traitors.💪👍

See? Told you I’m a pro at this chestnut business 😂

Anyway, today was amazing. I got to relive those old days a bit, surrounded by laughter and the smell of roasted goodness. Now I’m full, happy, and completely ready to faceplant into bed.

Oh, and the best part? I'm already home! Wooohooo! 🎉 (apparently I was good girl today) 😂😂

So tell me, do you guys have this chestnut tradition too? Or is it just me walking around like a squirrel in October? 🐿️✨

I have never tasted a chestnut in my entire life, but based on how you told that you picked it up in the forest and how you liked it. I think it's really delicious, especially the smell. How can you compare the smell so that even if I can't taste it, at least I know the smell hahaha 🤣. ahhh I want to taste the chestnut too but, sadly there is nothing like that in our country or if there is, it's probably expensive too, but I will definitely buy it when I see someone selling chestnuts so I can taste them too. hahaha Btw, enjoy the rest of your time, I think you are tired from your work, also your doggiee is so cute. 😍🥰

Never in your life? Oh… where are you coming from? Yeah, different countries have different foods… I hope you get a chance to try some of this… :) I love them because you only eat these in October, not all year :) Oh… it’s not my dog… it’s from my boss… she always brings him with her :) My dog, unfortunately, died last month :/

Philippines hhaha we don't have in our area, yeah! Hope soon. Oh, that's sad.

Ooooh I love them! As a kid I was like "noooo, I don't want to eat that!" but then my dad turned that into game of selling them to him and since then I am hooked. Also love chestnut puree 😋

Oooooh, chestnut puree, I love this ❤️ but I’ve never made it myself 🤔 I always buy it... my uncle gave me some chestnuts yesterday... maybe I’ll make it myself 🤔 hmmm…😂 I will write a recipe if I succeed 😂

I usually buy frozen one, I can't remember when I ate homemade one. Hm, now I am heading to the store and might even buy it. 😋 (hope not, trying to lose some weight)

Letos smo jih pekli v air-fryerju. Mal jih je treba razrezat in malenkost vode dodat. 😋

In these days I went often catching chestnuts luckily I live in a village quite close to woods with a lot of chestnuts threes, love the chestnuts season and love your photos 💕💕

Oooh, so you're living the dream! :) Thanks you ❤️ It was hard to take photos with glows on and black fingers 😂😂

The chestnuts are incredible in your story. I love how you emphasized how it is autumn's grratest gift to humanity which is true in your blog. Thank you for sharing how to make them properly. It is rarely sold here in the Philippines but who knows I will get to encounter it soon in your country❤️

I hope you get a chance to try them… they're really good :) They're also delicious when you cook them in water… my uncle gave me some yesterday, so I will cook them today :))) Thanks for stopping by ❤️

I can totally relate! Chestnuts always make me think of childhood walks and cosy moments. Ah, the nostalgia hits hard!

Yeah, exactly this... nostalgia 😌 looking for them in the forest, and of course, how many times have I been stung trying to get them out of those shells 😂.

Hive Power Up Day - November 1st 2025

To control our chestnut addiction, my wife and I had a rule for eating them... The rule was simple: when it's snowing outside, it's time for roasted chestnuts!
The problem arose when we moved to Spain... 😂 As there is no snow here, we had to break our rule and eat chestnuts whenever we wanted... I like the new rule much more than the first one... 😂

I had a simple recipe for preparing them in the microwave, but nothing can beat those made on the street! 🤤

Haha, bad rule if you live in Spain 😂. But these days, there's almost no snow here in our part of the country 😔. Yeah, those on the streets are definitely the best, but here in Graz, they're freaking expensive… 🤔. I'm lucky that my uncle always brings me some :)) thank u for picking my post 😊
