New Year's celebration (Esp-Eng)

Hoy quiero contarles cómo pasé el 31 de diciembre con mi familia porque, gracias a Dios, mis padres aún viven y me gusta disfrutarlo con ellos, mis hermanos, mi hijo y mi esposo. Este año no fue la excepción; lo mejor es que esta vez estuvimos los seis hermanos, ya que mi hermano siempre lo pasa en otro estado y este año lo pasó con nosotros en compañía de su esposa e hijos.

Este año, para la cena preparamos pollo al horno, ensalada de patatas, zanahorias y jamón ahumado, pan de jamón, refrescos y vino. Como de costumbre, cuando nos sentamos a la mesa, mi madre bendijo la comida y dio gracias a Dios por mantenernos juntos y sanos. Después de la cena, nos hicimos fotos y nos sentamos a charlar, bailar y tomar unas copas mientras esperábamos la medianoche para abrir el vino y llenar nuestras copas para brindar por el nuevo año, que esperamos con gran alegría.

Puedo decirles que una de las cosas que más disfruto de este día son las tradiciones que tenemos en casa para dar la bienvenida al año nuevo. Así que preparamos lentejas, algo que nos enseñó nuestra madre, y lo hacemos para atraer la abundancia. Cuando dimos la bienvenida al nuevo año, mi hermana mayor se encargó de dar una cucharada a cada miembro de la familia; también comimos 12 uvas y, por supuesto, no podemos olvidarnos del brindis. Todas estas son tradiciones que aprendemos y transmitimos a las nuevas generaciones.

Aunque este año no fue muy bueno para mí, le dije adiós con mucha fuerza y agradecimiento por todas las cosas buenas y malas. Así que recibí este nuevo año con optimismo, fe y el deseo de salud, fuerza y sabiduría para seguir adelante. Bueno, amigos, que Dios bendiga a todas las familias y que la luz de la vida brille en cada uno de nosotros. Feliz Año Nuevo y próspero 2026.

Today I want to tell you how I spent December 31st with my family because, thank God, my parents are still alive and I like to enjoy it with them, my siblings, my son, and my husband. This year was no exception; the best part is that this time all six siblings were there, since my brother always spends it in another state and this year he spent it with us in the company of his wife and children.

This year for dinner we prepared baked chicken, potato salad, carrots and smoked ham, ham bread, soft drinks, and wine. As usual, when we sat down at the table, my mother blessed the food and thanked God for keeping us together and healthy. After dinner, we took photos and then sat down to chat, dance, and have a few drinks while we waited for midnight to open the wine and fill our glasses to toast the new year, which we await with great joy.

I can tell you that one of the things I enjoy most about this day are the traditions we have at home to welcome in the new year. So we prepare lentils, something our mother taught us, and we do it to attract abundance. When we welcomed the new year, my older sister was in charge of giving each member of the family a spoonful; we also ate 12 grapes and, of course, we can't forget the toast. These are all traditions that we learn and pass on to new generations.

Although this year wasn't very good for me, I said goodbye to it with great strength and gratitude for all the good and bad things. So I welcomed this new year with optimism, faith, and the desire for health, strength, and wisdom to move forward.
