Well, there are laundromats in Russia, but they are not popular and mostly used for washing some big things like carpets, or blankets, that could not fit into your home washing machine. Sometimes they wash sneakers in it.
No women in Russia's cities in their right mind and without a strong need will wash their personal clothes or underwear in a public laundry. I will tell you why that is! Also, let's compare the US, Europe and Russia in their traditional ways to wash clothes. Also, what was one of the very first washing machines invented in the USSR?

don't have washing machine. long long time ago people had been washing their clothes in a river. i don't know how it was at your country before washing machine was invented but in Russia since long ago it was very common. even me when i used to come back to my mother's house in Yakutia at summer. we still Rinsed laundry in the Lena
river. imagine till now not our house in Russia has washing machine or even water pipes and you know Dam..... it was hard to do. like i saw how people who have been doing this their whole life, they had strained, work-worn hands, especially it was obvious on elderly people even my mother had that kind of hands. sometimes even younger girls had hands that looked like they got out early. i was scared of that. when seeing that as a child. how hard people worked doing everything by their hands everything were washed by hands but mostly bad linens and don't you think no no that you could just bypass it and wash it lightly you had to clean it until it sparks usually laundry was boiled first to make it white imagine big huge wet of hot water how often women were injured with hot water and one day this happened our first ever saw it washing machine how happy we were you cannot imagine finally woman hands will look like woman hands
but of course the machine was kinda basic as i can remember it called malutka it was a cylinder washing machine with hand spinning construction on the top of it and if we wanted to dry quickly laundry you had to buy a separate centrifuge since the time that we got our first ever washing machine it didn't matter that it was basic the fact that it can wash by itself made people crazy about it and since then probably remembering that time when laundry was washed by hands no woman in Russia will no dream to have her own washing machine it became a part of our everyday life and when i saw on YouTube some Russian bloggers who live in USA or Europe they mentioned that it's rare when people in western countries have their own washing machine many people use public laundry service or public washing machines people do really use public washing machines hey people can you explain me please in our shops i see many different kind of watching machine wide range of types some of it has such amazing functions and it look so beautiful all these tumblers and light think on it how can you not want to own it in Russia if you don't have at home washing machine that means your life went in a wrong way i mean it's no comfort and comfort is very important for us so those bloggers from Russia who lives in USA or Europe normally express shock and astonishment when learned that there is no washing machine at people's houses in Russian big cities like Khabarovsk, Saint-Petersburg and Moscow when someone want to rent an apartment or house and will find out that there is no washing machine or either you have to go down to the basement just to wash your laundry then mostly like the tenant will run away and will not rent this house well at least if he is not on the lowest budget and they want to save some money but those people definitely will be unhappy and secretly angry that they don't have washing machine they're gonna grumble all the time so as you see the fact that we didn't have washing machine at our childhood now we Russian women are crazy about it
