Hi Gems Community, this is first post in this community. First of all happy new year you all. Wait what happy new year? Yes it's a new year in South part of India.

What's Ugadhi?

Ugadhi means the beginning of new age. People celebrate Ugadhi as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra state. I'm from andhrapradesh we call it ugadhi, it's a telugu new year. There are nearly 120 million people celebrate this festival.

What people do on ugadhi

People wish each each other a happy new year today and they all gather at one place with their relatives. They exchange gifts and do some activities like dancing, eating, cooking, singing etc.

People make a special chutney on this with Neem tree leaves and raw mango, pepper powder, salt, jaggery and coconut. It's a mix of six flavors namely bitter, salty, sour, sweet, spicy, and pungent.

People take a little spoon of this ugadhi chutney and eat it.
This chutney represents six tastes and it's extremely good for health because of the healthy ingredients.

Ugadhi is one of the famous and prominent festivals in south. People from accross the world who settled in different countries come together at their native place have a grand reunion. And they will have a traditional Indian food with rice, fried vegetables, chutneys, papadam and sambar and some sweet dessert.

Ugadhi is a main festival for women in India

This is a main festival for girls to buy new dresses and get ready pretty well. They also get plenty of rewards from their relatives in the form of money and jewellery. Girls look so beautiful in traditional dresses, most of the guys just keep staring at these beautiful girls in beautiful Indian traditional dresses.

I also got a silver coin today from a mysterious delivery. I don't know who sent me this but it was good cute 10g silver coin. I am glad to receive silver on this new day. Most people believe that silver is a symbol of luck.

Interesting! I know that neem oil has a pungent smell, I wonder if the tree leaves are any different. I loved her dress and I was drawned by the henna art on the hands

😂 tree leaves tastes more bitter but extremely good for health. Back in olden days people used to chew neem leaves everyday for mouth freshness and to kill bacteria. Girls mostly wear traditional dresses on festivals, sad they wear western wear on daily basis, sarees only for festivals these days. :/ Girls look so pretty in saree.

Oh I see. The traditional dresses look gorgeous, if I would be an indian girl I would wear them all the time

🌚 awwe, ever worn a saree before?

Nope, we don't have such a clothing item in my country

What a wonderful way to celebrate!

Yes it's pretty fun and very pleasant

Yay! 🤗
