CYCLOPIS, EVERYTHING YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ONE-EYED GIANTS + ILLUSTRATION PROCESS ENG-ESP

Hello dear friends of Hive, I hope you are very well, today I want to show you the process of CYCLOPIS, the second illustration I made for my BESTIARIVS collection, also, I bring you a little of the mythology behind this monstrous creature.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive, espero se encuentren muy bien, hoy quiero mostrarles el proceso de CYCLOPIS, la segunda ilustración que realicé para mi colección BESTIARIVS, además, les traigo un poco de la mitología detrás de esta monstruosa criatura.

According to Greek mythology the Cyclops are a race of giants that had a single in the middle of their forehead. The oldest were sons of Uranus and Gaea, giants, skilled in construction and blacksmithing, Brontes, Stéropes and Arges, were imprisoned in Tartarus by their father and finally released by Zeus to help him in the Titanomachy, according to some versions they were the ones who made the weapons of Zeus and the trident of Poseidon.

Según la mitología griega los cíclopes son una raza de gigantes que tenían un solo en medio de su frente. Los más antiguos eran hijos de Urano y Gea, gigantescos, hábiles para la construcción y la herrería, Brontes, Estéropes y Arges, fueron encerrados en el tártaro por su padre y finalmente puestos en libertad por Zeus para que le ayudaran en la Titanomaquia según algunas versiones fueron ellos quienes fabricaron las armas de Zeus y el tridente de Poseidón.

The second generation of Cyclops, also giants, monstrous and less skilled in manual labor, were a tribe of sheep herders who inhabited the island of Mount Etna, in the seas near Sicily, the most famous of whom was Polyphemus, son of Poseidon, whom Odysseus blinded from his only eye. As a curious fact, Euripides describes him as having a homosexual tendency, although this only occurs in a satirical drama.

La segunda generación de cíclopes, también gigantes, monstruosos y menos hábiles para los trabajos manuales eran una tribu de pastores de ovejas que habitaban la isla del monte Etna, en los mares cercanos a Sicilia, el más famoso de estos fue Polifemo, hijo de Poseidón, a quien Odiseo cegó de su único ojo. Como dato curioso, Eurípides lo describe con tendencia homosexual, aunque esto solo ocurre en un drama satírico.

Now that we know a little more about this character and also about what a fan I am of Greek mythology, it's time to start with the drawing process, once again, the idea of drawing this creature was given to me by the beautiful @andreart99 and it is part of a small collection in which I describe the beasts and creatures that mythology has left us. I must confess that I'm not good at sketching directly in digital so my creative process starts most of the time on paper.

Ahora que conocemos un poco más de este personaje y también sobre lo fan que soy de la mitología griega, es hora de empezar con el proceso de dibujo, una vez más, la idea de dibujar a esta criatura me la ha dado la hermosísima @andreart99 y forma parte de una pequeña colección en la que describo a las bestias y criaturas que nos ha dejado la mitología. Debo confesar que no soy bueno haciendo bocetos directamente en digital por lo que mi proceso creativo empieza la mayoría de las veces en papel.

Cyclops were known not only for their one eye, but also for their strength and size. So the first step was to make a muscular, stocky and well-marked body. Of course, showing a single large eye in the middle of the forehead, the first sketch had a face quite different from the final one, I modified it later when I didn't feel satisfied with the previous one.

Los cíclopes eran conocidos no solo por su único ojo, también por su fuerza y su tamaño. Por ello el primer paso fue hacer un cuerpo musculoso, fornido y bien marcado. Por supuesto, mostrando un único y gran ojo a mitad de la frente, el primer boceto tenía una cara bastante distinta a la final, eso lo modifiqué luego al no sentirme conforme con la anterior.

The next step was to make the outline in Ibis Paint X, take care of the details and polish the initial sketch. Then I started coloring, in sepia tones and airbrush brushes, to give it an antique finish, I also played with different levels of transparency, trying to give it the right depth, quite a challenge for me, dealing with a male body, with which I do not feel so familiar, and also quite muscular.

El siguiente paso fue realizar el delineado en Ibis Paint X, cuidar los detalles y pulir el boceto inicial. Luego empecé a colorear, en tonos sepia y pinceles de aerógrafo, para darle un acabado antiguo, también jugué con distintos niveles de transparencia, intentando darle la profundidad adecuada, todo un reto para mí, tratándose de un cuerpo masculino, con el que no me siento tan familiarizado, y además bastante musculoso.

Then I added as background a landscape of rocky beaches inspired by the coasts of Sicily, where they lived, and texture to resemble an ancient parchment.

Luego le agregué como fondo un paisaje de playas rocosas inspiradas en las costas de Sicilia, donde estos habitaban y textura para semejar un pergamino antiguo.

The final step was to give it the title, text describing the creature and some important messages and information, as was done in the old medieval bestiaries, all written in Latin, with a style inspired by the manuscripts of the Renaissance period.

El paso final fue ponerle el título, texto que describe a la criatura y algunos mensajes e información importante, tal como se hacía en los antiguos bestiarios medievales, todo escrito en latín, con un estilo inspirado en los manuscritos del periodo renacentista.
