BAIT: HOW TO EARN BIG UPVOTES

So you probably heard about hive from your buddy or twitter or whatever means--I don't care. The important thing is that you did hear about hive and you thought to yourself:

Bingo! I have found me money that grows on trees. Amazing!

You created an introduction post. You gained major support. In your little mind, you thought you would be rich in no time. Your dreams of buying a yacht seemed more obtainable with the $5 upvote you got from Mr.You-dont-know.

You decided to take another go at it. You wrote a fairly good post. It got half of the reward you got the other time and lesser for every attempt after that.

"This might not be the cash cow i thought it was," You said to yourself, "Maybe i need to put in more effort." So you did but the result was as bad as your previous attempt--even worst. So you gave up, like the failure you've been conditioned to be. You went back to your petty life of wasting time on social media and running commentary on other people's lives as Big Data Companies make a billions out of you but hey, you don't know and what don't care.

You can never make it!

I think by now you should have clocked that this is a bad attempt to create a satire of some sort. Well, if you haven't then chances are you aren't that smart and this post is above your cerebral capacity.

So i guess you've come across the whiners that fit the description above. You might have been a whinner--i have-- until you decided to do the needful by taking the bull by the horn and fighting for your spot here.

But i put a lot of effort into my post

This is the major complaint you get from newbies. Many have this funny assumption that effort somehow equates economical rewards--upvotes. Does it ever come across your mind that no one sees your effort? All that time and creative energy and no one get to see your content. Do you ever consider that to be a probability? Think about it, you have no following, no clout on the chain and for some weird reason, you think people will magically discover your content or they are obliged to?

But they saw the first one?

That's because there are algorithms put in place to detect new users. most time people go through specific hashtags to find new content creators and welcome them to the blockchain. After that, the ball is in your court. However, you can use that as a cue to explore other hashtags. Now, with the advent of communities, you have a better chance of being discovered.

NETWORKING

Now it is one thing to be to explore new tags and communities and another thing entirely being part of these communities. Most people just dump their fancy posts and thing they will get support. They don't take time to understand the blockchain--its ethos, intricacies. and how best to contribute to the ecosystem. There is little you can get out of here with this type of approach.

CHALLENGE
So how this:
You spend the next two months learning about cryptocurrency and the hive ecosystem. Why? Because 80% of the conversation here are around these two things.

Secondly, find a community you like and engage with other people's posts. Partake in meaningful contests as this is one of the ways to get discovered. Partake in the twitter challenge by sharing the things you love about hive with the world. Engage with other hivians on twitter. It is easier to get discovered on twitter by other stakeholders. Some of the larger stakeholders are very interested in the twitter campaign and are willing to support hivians who are contributing significantly to that campaign.

Thirdly, post regularly. There is little or no chance to be discovered if you don't post regularly. And please put in a decent effort, please. Follow this simple rule: never post what you would never read or comment on.
Now to make your experience more pleasurable during this period of drought, i suggest you leverage on the clout you already have on other social platforms. Here is the trick: if you did enjoy posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any social platform regularly you can take the conversations from there and make a post about it. For example, a lot of people are interesting in Big Brother Naija. It has been trending for a month. If you like the show and you watch it, you can talk about it here and share your links on twitter or any social platform you use. This way you talk about the things you enjoy and have people comment on them. The good thing about this is that you get to enjoy what you're doing even if the upvotes aren't coming. As many have established in the past, no one owes you an upvote. I have it at the back of my mind that this post might end not getting a huge upvote but i am posting anywhere.

If you follow these tips and nothing changes for you in the next 2-3months call me a fool (which unfortunately i am not). Yes, i said so. If it doesn't change anything for you then you can leave this space and never come back and it will be justified but if you don't try and you end up whining, well that's justifiable too but what do i care about that.

Nothing good comes easy. It might seem otherwise for some people here but if you do your research you will understand and appreciate why certain people get support. Your impact must be felt. A lot of people know i exist on this platform. Some might like me, others might not, that is irrelevant to me. What is important is that my presence is being felt. Can you say the same about yourself?

So i hope i have been able to conceive and not confuse you that being persistent and sticking to the hive dream is more rewarding than shotting blankets on centralised platforms. In fact, you can approach both the same way simultaneously. There is no rule against that. It is all about your attitude and desire to thrive.

Sort:

Lol where's your big upvote then..
I would bet that not one of those votes even read this piece.

This game serves the blind voters only, not the content creators. That's the only true story.

CHECK AGAIN SMARTY PANTS

Check what?
Do you mean the response from lemons which is so generic that it looks like he's just trying to grow his audience.

I'm not knocking your hustle man but do you disagree on the points I made? You didn't actually say anything about that.

Content is meaningless here, it's just about the votes and who's ballbag you tickle for that vote. Automation the popular system.

check what?

The upvote from your question: then where are you big upvote?

Secondly, I don't have to agree or disagree with your point. That's your perspective. The point of this piece was to trigger those about to give up. You've been here for how long? 2-3years? If it was as terrible as you say it you won't be here but that's not the case, is it?

Personal observation: I don't know of one content creator who criticise this place that's doing well, as a content creator outside this space with the supposed quality and contribution they claim hive doesn't have (and they do). I can bet the $300 I have on this account that anyone who has failed here as a content creator cannot make it anywhere taking the amount of time and effort they put in. If you cannot thrive in an ecosystem of less than 10000 active users than certainly, you cannot make it anywhere else. I would love to be proven wrong.

Content is meaningless anywhere if youre unwilling to play the social game, of which many think they are above. To does people I say good luck.

Fair enough, I respect your disengaged honesty. But if you looked at how long I'm here, you would see that I don't even post much. Then there was a gap from 2017 to now: 2020. So I did give up... why did you not save me mann!

I'm joking and also not expecting you to know my perspective. Observing is my thing. With commentary. This is a game of money and people. Actually, more accurately, a competition between people over money (rewards) so that's something I find highly interesting and fascinating.

Also what interested me to return was this metamorphosis from Steemit to Hive. If Steem/Hive has one thing going for it, it's drama. It's juicy right now still and the whispers of which Blockchain will fail and which one will succeed is like an impromptu reality TV show of crypto. I'm surprised no one is covering it here play-by-play because drama is always popular on social media/internet.

Anyway that's my commentary.
I'm an oddity here though.
I don't vote but I do comment.
Everyone just votes (blindly) and doesn't comment. But then if most here are upvoters.. shouldn't you have a larger reward? There's something broken here. Or maybe not. Maybe that's by design. Interesting if HF24 will change anything.

Consistency, good interaction and good contents is the key in online platforms.

Lovely and helpful!

Well done @nonsowrites

Nonso this is an amazing and helpful write up. Keep up 💯😊

I agree with you, many people come to Hive thinking that they will make large amounts of money and forget that what is really important here is to make yourself known to others, sharing quality content and enjoying the process. If we see Hive as a job we will be unhappy.

Wow ! This post is packed with some much wisdom and experiential knowledge. Thanks for sharing

it all dont come for free dude.

getting to the decent point takes a lot of work and consistancy as well. And yeah, maybe it will never work out..You dont know, but it is always worth the shot to make a decent effort and see where it leads to!

This is why in every single introduction post I tell people that don't expect anything for rewards. The most important piece is getting yourself out there and commenting on other peoples content, going into different communities and groups.

The newer people kind of have it made with how we have Hive set up now. Communities is a lot easier to search than trying to find a tag or explaining to someone how to find a tag. Like photography? There's a dozen communities related to that!

Many don't seem to heed my words but that's okay, the quality folks that do are here and doing fantastic and are a very good part of the community. We can only give people the tools, what they do with it is up t them!

Nice post. Was wonderful n helpful
