Hamster painting

in GEMS3 years ago

Hello everyone, today I drew some hamsters as I kept seeing them in my minds eye and just had to let go of them. I looked for references for inspiration and settled on this one.

I drew as usual in my sketchbook pro app and used two brushes:brush number 3 and the dry marker brush.

Steps :

I started with an outline as usual

Then I filled in the base colors to get a more cohesive feel and better visualize what I would be adding next.

I then created a new layer on top of this one so I could paint over the outlines I had drawn. This is to make the work look cleaner and determine where detailing should begin.

At this stage, I also started using the dry marker brush to add texture because I don't enjoy drawing fine hairs. It's not my style at all, so I just prefer to do something more impressionistic and then I proceeded to add some texture to the background as well, by painting with a lighter gray value and blending it with the darker background.
