Today I would like to share with you a few macro frames of one of the flowers that stopped me in my tracks – AGAPANTHUS AFRICANUS also known in English as the African lily.
I photographed this one during a quiet walk through a botanical garden in Germany. It was looking for some nice flowers to make macro shots and this one seemed to be a perfect one. 🌿
This flower has naturally a soft, gentle violet color. However for this particular series I decided to go a little beyond reality and play with color during the postprocess. I went for a more surreal, cool-toned blue to highlight its shape and structure rather than its original tone. I guess this is one of those moments when creativity gently whispers: "What if?" 😊
On a botanical note – AGAPANTHUS AFRICANUS is a perennial native to South Africa. Despite its name it's not a true lily, but it does belong to the Amaryllidaceae family. It thrives in sunny climates and is often grown as an ornamental plant in European gardens thanks to its long, elegant stalks and clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers.
Its name comes from Greek: “agape” (love) and “anthos” (flower), which gives it a translation – the Flower of Love. 💙
How beautiful is that?
