is there a good general community for new users? i just joined, i'm not new to decentralized social media coming from $DeSo, but i'm a bit lost here because there seem to be so many communities and there was no tutorial so i just don't really know how comparable this is to where i'm coming from.
are there totally different types of social media sites built on this blockchain? this feels a bit like reddit/forums, is there a twitter-like place, etc.?
i would love to learn more!

Hive is in the process of becoming something, so it is hard to keep track what it is.
Maybe it's the best to find home in one of the communities, to start with.
I spend a lot of time on leofinance, which is the biggest community on Hive. You can find it as a community on Hive, but it also has its own frontend at leofinance.io
They are all built on the Hive blockchain. Some of them have their own frontend, some of them with different 'rules'. Some different currencies (tokens built on Hive, Hive-Engine).
You also have different frontends to Hive itself. You should look at peakd.com, I find it's the best.

thanks, yeah, i'm coming from $DeSo, which is very similar. blockchain, different nodes can have entirely different types of sites built on top. one of the $DeSo nodes also pulls in Hive content, that's partially how i found myself here.
i kinda just make random content on $DeSo and then interact with the community (mainly asking questions about the viability of using blockchain for social media lol), the node i use most is like a twitter-style site. and i'm starting to do a little coding also though not creating a node, i'm just building a different view on the content from an existing node.
i'll check out leofinance but it sounds like it's finance-oriented so i don't know if it's the right fit but i will still go look! thanks!

btw.: the only way to send messages (for now) is to send a tiny amount of Hive and include the message in the memo. Not a great system.
yeah i just feel so dumb that i never realized you had given a comment letting me know about that. i had gotten a plethora of comments i think the next day on another post and had never gone alllll the way back in my notifications. makes me feel bad! only reason why i cared about a dm was that i had wanted to send thanks.
but so is there no way to tag a person in a comment here? yeah, i can right? why wouldn't that be preferred? like i could have commented anywhere or maybe even in a post, done HEY @captainklaus THANK YOU SO MUCH - right?
