IE (Industrial Engineering) Day is a day wherein all Industrial Engineering students can show their talent and creativity, which can help them sharpen their minds and think critically. Compose of different activities that can help each student develop their own personal skills and social skills toward others. Hello! Dear Hivers. It is me once again, Jean, your aspiring engineer in the future. Before we start, let me ask you a question. How was your day?. Are you feeling tired or fine? And I hope you’re doing fine and can enjoy reading this blog. This may inspire you or others to be industrial engineering students.
I want to recall to you some of our experiences on our IE day on May 9, 2024, at CTU-Tabogon Extension Daan Bantayan Campus, held at our school gymnasium with the help of Integrating Excellence Society (the organization of IE students on our campus) officers led by our President Shella Povadora. Our IE Day was themed “Unleash Potential: Showcasing Talents and Creativities.” . From 1st year to 4th year IE students , we are grouped into five groups. The teams are composed of the 5S, which are the Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. I think you’re familiar with these words especially in managing. I’m team Sort at that time and there’s a lot of members in each group. The groupings are faIr because they are compose of the same numbers of students and the same grade level. For example, if the sort team have three members of 1st years and five members of 2nd years then the other team have also the same amount number of members. Teamwork and decision making is needed to achieve every activities. But of course, have fun.

These are the IES officers.
They did a very good job.
The event started with a prayer and the opening speech of our IES president afterwards. We’re just listening, and we’re excited for each activity in which we can participate. We’re almost 100 students in all, I guess. However, only a few 4th grade students attended or joined the program since they’re so busy at that time preparing for their finals. It’s fine because the groupings are balanced with a few 4th-year students. We respect our seniors because soon we may encounter the same problem.

Also, that day was the birthday of our IE chairman. His name is Engr. George Michael Geollina is a certified industrial engineer. We started singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him. Seeing him smile with us makes us smile too; he was a great professor for us. They give him a cake to celebrate his birthday with us. It was indeed a wonderful day for him and for us.

After a few minutes, they started the games. The first game was ‘Different Beliefs, One Goal.’ All you need to do is draw the picture that was on bond paper with your teammates using a pentel pen, but the twist was that you cannot hold the pentel pen; instead, you need to tie it with yarn, and you can hold the yarn and balance the pentel pen to draw. It’s hard, right? All you need is good teamwork with your teammates, and you must have a style or technique on how to draw what’s given successfully.

You can see how determined we are to draw it, no matter how hard it is.
The games were followed by Name That Formula and IE riddles. It’s such a great game to sharpen our minds. We need to think critically to get the right answer. Through these games, it helps us socialize with our co-IEs and achieve good decision-making, which is so important in our field. They’re fun to be with, and it seems like we’re in one. Some of our professors participate in the riddle game to have fun. It’s not fair if only the students are having fun, as are the professors. After those above-mentioned games, we have our lunch break and need to come back at 1:00 pm.

In the afternoon, there’s a chess tournament, a slogan, and poster-making; only two per team in chess. Sadly, I don’t know how to play chess, and my team has only one player. Luckily, he achieved second place. I badly want to learn chess; I must know the different moves and techniques, but it’s too difficult for me to understand. That’s why I gave up. But they always say it’s interesting and challenging. Forme, it’s a disgrace.

Only one person per team can make a slogan and poster making.

While they're busy making it, we’re busy too with the quiz bowl. There are only three members per team in the quiz bowl. Among the three, I’m one of them, along with two first-years. We collaborate on our ideas and learnings for the right answer. I’m happy we won third place that time. The quiz bowl was full of math questions; of course, we’re an IE.

The last game was the bridge-making contest. It’s hard; you need to make a strong bridge with sticks, glue sticks, and yarn. We’re fully determined to make a strong bridge that can withstand the different levels of heaviness. Our team collaborated as one, and we helped each other to make it happen. Nothing is impossible if you have teamwork with your teammates. They just gave us a few hours to finish it; I forgot the exact time.

After a long time, we’re done. And each team presented each bridge that they made. Then, they put a heavy thing—a hallow block—on the bridge to see if it's strong. And yeah, it is. All bridges are unique and strong.

Overall, the event went well. In just one day, we suddenly forgot our projects in school, our activities, our exams, and our problems. It seems like we’re free from that day. We really enjoyed the event. We made new friends from each grade level. This event helps us build strong relationships with other people. I hope to have a successful IE Day next year.
