Hello Friends.
I have been sorta lazy the last few days and have not been on any adventures. Also, it is cold outside, so I have been working on other articles. One that I was thinking about for a while was, what makes an interesting article... So, today in lue of a travel article, let's talk articles, and some pointers for them.
What makes an interesting article.
I think everyone would like to write an article people are interested in and want to read. And even more people would like to read such articles, because that means more readers, which means more hits to your website and more credibility for you as a writer.
- But what makes such an article?
- What are the ingredients of a hit-writer?
I am not a professional English major, nor do I play one on TV... however, I'll try to give you some tips. But keep in mind there is no universal recipe for great articles. The same article, written by two different writers, can be either a hit or a flop. So, the skills of the writer are also important.
Before we start, let's make sure we all know what we mean when we use the term "article." An article can be anything from a 500-word blog post to a multipage article in a published book. For the purposes of this article, we'll consider an article to be a piece between 750 and 2,000 words.
Here are some of the things that make a high-quality, hit article:
It addresses a relevant topic.
You would be surprised at how many people write long articles about something that nobody cares about. They curse themselves when their articles go ignored. If you cover a topic that people are interested in, your hits and links will prove how interested people are in what you write about. If not, your article will remain unread and unprompted.
To find relevant topics, read the articles on other websites that are in the same niche as you.
- What are they writing about?
- What questions do users post to forums and websites that your writers can answer with your article?
- Can you add to or express those ideas better or differently?
It provides useful and/or entertaining information.
People are always looking for new information. If your article provides useful information people don't already know, they will feel smart for learning something new and will appreciate your writing effort. Even better, If you're entertaining people while giving them useful information, you'll have hit on a much-loved combination.
It provides a solution to a specific problem.
People aren't looking for general information - they're looking for solutions to specific problems. An article that provides those solutions, and does it well, will be hugely appreciated.
For example, if you write an article that explains how to change the settings on a brand-new computer, that will help a lot of people who don't know how to do that, and they'll be grateful to you for helping them out.
It offers additional value by including examples, step-by-step instructions, lists, or other forms of research. If you provide additional elements alongside your article text, readers will find it more helpful and appreciate your effort. They may also recognize that you've actually provided them with useful information.
For example, if you provide a list of things to remember while writing on a particular topic, or a series of tips related to your topic, readers will find them useful and again, I hope at least... appreciate what you've written.
It follows the required format and content.
Blog owners look for writers who can follow the format and content required by the website. If your article fits in with the style of the website it's being posted to, it'll be more likely to be accepted for posting and more likely to attract hits and links from other websites.
For example, if the website your article is for includes keyword-centric content, and links to other useful resources, your article will be more likely to be accepted if it includes all of those things. As a result, your hard work will be appreciated through the exposure your content receives.
It offers value beyond the words on the page.
The words you put on the page are important, but so is what your content implies. If your article offers value above and beyond the written word, readers will recognize that you went the extra mile to make them feel respected and cared for.
For example, if you include references to additional resources, or a list of further reading materials, or a link to a related resource where people can ask questions, readers will recognize that you're providing value beyond the content on your website. They'll appreciate that you're giving them the respect of assuming they're interested in continuing learning after reading your article.
Final thoughts.
What makes an article interesting is not a static thing. It changes with the times, and with the person reading it. However, there are some tried and true methods of making sure that your article stands out and is worth the attention of your audience.
Start with a great hook, make sure your sources are credible, and pepper your writing with interesting facts and anecdotes.
If you can master these techniques, and keep in mind the other points above, you'll be well on your way to writing fascinating articles that will keep your readers coming back for more.
The last tip I can offer is that you should write ever day. Do a post about something, and write about 700 words on the topic. You will improve in time. :)
Cheers

An article should also communicate with the designated audience. If the readers don't understand or catch a glimpse of the article, then I don't think it should be called an article but a random post.
