A black day at the market.

We wake up with different stories and different expectations everyday. I was in PortHarcourt, Rivers State when my sister called me narrating what happened at one of the popular market in Aba, Abia state. The market is called waterside market popularly known as "Ahia-udele or slaughter" cause that is where most of the meet is being killed and prepared.

But it wasn't a good news for them, it was a sad morning when a trailer carrying a 40feet container failed break and the coach broke and fell into the market killing scores of people. The rate of accident in this road is quite alarming and with the market here is a very big risk to so many lives. The government has to order for the demolition of the market and total shutdown. I couldn't meet up with the market standing so I took a photo of how the caterpillar was able to level it within days after the government gave the order

The next picture shows why the government gave such order. This is a federal road that's always congested and being used by big vehicles. Due to the nature of the road, and the market being at the base of a hill there's always a risk of similar accident. Though this is not the first time such accident occurs around this axis but going inside the market is another level

If you zoom the above picture you will see the traffic on top of that bridge. And under the bridge is where most activities do take place, like washing the meat.

Across the road,the other side of the market is a cattle ranch. Where all the cattle that is brought from the north are being kept until it's being purchased

This time around they demolished everything, including the cattle ranches

The trailer failed break and was trying to control it but the coach broke and fell into the market. The worst fact is they couldn't even catch the driver as he ran out immediately. The head of the truck was broken into pieces and the parts were looted by angry mobs. The caterpillar managed to jack the container out while the demolition was going on and they left it on the other side of the road

So many people lost their lives, one of the victims narrated how his twin brother were pressed to death by the container while he was trying to run away. And another was a final year student who also lost his life in the same incident and poster for his burial arrangements is already out with the banner placed beside the scene of the accident

Many of the victims were rushed to the hospital, some died at the hospital according to report while others are responding to treatment in different hospitals.
