The weather here is thankfully sunny. Weather forecast says the typhoon is leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Hopefully the weather continues this way as it's harvesting season here already.
A rainy season won't be good for the farmers.
But anyway, what I want to share today is about the psychological first aid (PFA ) we administered to our learners back in October when we were struck by an earthquake. It is not particularly our role to give one but because a teacher's role goes beyond teaching, we accepted the challenge.
It was the day after the quake. To prioritize the mental health of the learners, the division office mandated us and gave instructions and materials in administering the PFA. Me and my co-teachers were given a training back then, so we took the challenge and said to ourselves it's time to apply what we have learned and contribute to this meaningful intervention.
The materials were provided the presentations and the activities. We started with a prayer and had a Zumba dance to lower down the tension the learners may be feeling.
When we had our kumustahan, asking how they're feeling, most of them said they are fine. When we gave them the activities and had them share about it, everyone is very participative.
Based from their outputs and sharing, most of the learners were doing fine. No signs of too much stress and shock. It was because of the support they get from their family members. They were assured it was a normal phenomenon that happens in nature.
With that in mind they were not panicking that much. And with that observation we felt happy. Hoping no more strong earthquake will happen soon.
Up to this day, the children no longer talk about the earthquake incident like nothing happened. And when it's brought up they just shared what they experienced lightly like it's just a simple thing in the past.
