Are you happy when you get what you want? Of course, who's not gonna be happy when you finally got what you have prayed for how many years? In my case, I felt that happiness on the day of my graduation.

My Vision

Let's talk about first how I landed my course, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. It was never in my wildest dream to become a civil engineer. I remembered when I was still a child people would ask me what is my ambition. I'd told them, I want to be a flight attendant because I want to travel around the world. However, my perspective changed when I saw the real world. Whenever I saw people or children on the streets, I feel pity for them. Imagine you are still a child and you are wandering on the streets without slippers and sometimes I saw them without pants or shorts. I can't imagine how their days are going or how will they get through with life. As a result, I had this in mind that I want to build an orphanage for them. That would not be so easy for me because I am not rich enough to have the funds and build an organization like that. However, I realized that I can still do something with the world build, and that is why my vision of becoming a civil engineer arose.

My Mission

Orphans are close to my heart. When we had this activity in our school way back in 2018 which is dedicated to a community or what we will do is that we need to organize a community outreach program. I found this orphanage in our city and as the leader of the group, I decided to go there and organize the event. At that point in my life, I was also very happy and thankful because I got to visit them. I am also touched by their stories and why they had to live in the orphanage (the orphanage is organized by nuns). I am always grateful that I get to visit them. On the other hand, my ambition to become a civil engineer get stronger when I saw stray dogs wandering in the streets or abandoned dogs. In my mind, I would say, if I can't afford to build an orphanage, I would build a home for dogs that were abandoned and for strays also. I mean, my heart really goes to those children or dogs who don't have a shelter. I trust the Lord's plan and I know that He sent me to build and shelter these abandoned children and dogs.

How was it?
College was challenging, especially when we had to go through the pandemic. I must really say that the language of civil engineering is Mathematics and its other forms. In the case of Civil Engineering, there is construction cost estimation, construction scheduling, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, and structural analysis and computations. I had to study really hard, but I also skip studying because of procrastination. I need to practice a lot of sample problems and memorize plenty of formulas. And I am so proud of myself because finally, my plans have aligned and I finished my bachelor's degree.

I dedicate my success to the following people:

My Family
My parents are both working hard to provide for our needs. I can't imagine how my life would be without them. Every time my body and mind want to give up, I always think of my family, especially my parents. And at moment, I will stand up and gets motivated. I would ask myself if I'm tired, how much more are my parents paying my tuition fee? As a result, I want to finish my bachelor's degree for them and help them. Also, to make their dream house come true.

My Dreams and Ambitions
Personally, I don't want to become a rich person. I just want to live a simple life. I want to have my own house and a lot for my family in the future and also build the dream house for my parents. Yes, I want to live in a different house. I want to be independent and live on my own, of course with my partner in life. But for now, I will prioritize my parent's dream and planning for their dream house. I want them to grow old in their dream house with our dogs. Because I know the time will come wherein they don't have the strength to work, and I also want them to retire from working when they approach 60 years old. Then, I will also save funds for one of my greatest dreams, to build an orphanage or home for stray dogs. My heart goes for these dreams and ambitions, and I trust the Lord's plans for me.

My Partner and Long-time Boyfriend
I and my boyfriend started at a very young age. We were just 15 years old when we felt each other's care and love. At that time, I'm really hesitant to have in relationship with him because my parents are really strict, especially my mom. However, when he courted me I told him that he should go to our house and visit me so that my parents would personally know him. Surprisingly, he went. And at that point in my life, I could say that he is a man who fulfilled his promises, and that kind of man deserves to be loved. And who would have thought that we will go to college in the same school and same course? After junior high school, we separated school (he went to the University of Cebu and I went to the University of San Jose - Recoletos). When college came, that's the time I discovered that he also wants to become a civil engineer. I mean, is this fate? And now, look at us, we finally made it. Four years in college, four years of busy moments, four years same classroom and section (also my forever seatmate in college lol), and four years of praying to the Lord that He may grant our prayers and ambitions in life.

My Next Step

Before I graduated, I already tried working although it was not in line with civil engineering I found that I can make money from it. I mean, the salary is competitive and I also like the work. I knew that I want to work in an industry where I can communicate with other people because it is where I can learn how to work in this certain field. So, I and my boyfriend decided to work in the BPO industry first to make some money, since we can't take the board exam this November because of the requirements needed for the filing of the board examination. While we are doing our review, we will be working. And it might not be related to civil engineering but there are plenty of lessons that I can learn where in I can apply to civil engineering since I specialized in construction engineering and management.
