Hello everyone and happy Mother's Day. It's been a while depression's a bitch and though I've been going through some stuff, I've also been working on my art. I've come to the painful realization that relying on my art as a source of income isn't sustainable anymore, and though I've tried looking for jobs, they're not as easy to come by these days. I can't count the number of applications I've sent out over the past few weeks, and I've not gotten even one feedback yet, crazy.
Amidst the frustration, drawing has been a form of escape. At least, it empties my mind of all worries, until I stop drawing and my thoughts resurface.
This piece is part of a three-part series, I don't have a name for it yet, nor do I have a name for the series. But they all have a theme that runs through them, a theme you'll become familiar with as soon as I post the next piece. I don't have much to say about this piece, except that I was trying to depict the African nature of the subject through the use of the festival marks while also giving it an air of the fantastical.
I've always found drawing the hair one of the most challenging parts of portraiture, which was why I chose to do whatever with this one lol. It started out well too.
