Lore - Finrod Felagund - The Silmarillion

I'm completely sure that everyone has a favorite character from a book a movie or an author, but you know how hard it is to have a favorite character in Tolkien's legendarium? That guy has like a quizillion _{that's a bit more than a bazillion} people there, all amazing, you may like the Stairsboarder prince of the Mirkwood Legolas or perhaps your likes are more on the side of the furry feet, Nazgul stabbing Meriadoc, but me, _{a man of culture} I will grace you with the life of the fairest of them all, the truest friend of all free peoples of Middle-Earth champion of the first edition of the Rap Battles of Beleriand _{ok it wasn't technically a rap battle... we'll get to it}Finrod Felagund!!

Finrod is the firstborn of Finarfin _{Son of Finwë the first king of the Noldor, yes this tale is old, older than the sun and moon, that old!} and Eärwen and he had two brothers Angrod and Aegnor and a sister Galadriel _{yes, this guy is Galadriel's big bro} he was born in Valinor in the age of peace of the Years of the Trees and was big friend _{you'll read this a lot} with the sons of Fingolfin, his uncle but as Finrod being Finrod he was also big friends with the son of Fëanor _{or like I like to call them "The Crazy Seven"}

The Years of the Trees were pretty uneventful so Finrod spend thousands of years spreading the gospel of being excellent to each other until Morgoth killed the Trees of Light and Finrod's grandad the High King of the Noldor, stole the Silmarils and fled to the Middle-Earth,_{he was pretty busy} filled with rage _{rightfully so, I mean Morgoth killed his father and stole his shit, I would be pretty mad too} Fëanor and his sons _{PsychoDad and the Crazy Seven} swore the oath to avenge Finwë and retrieve the Silmarils making all the Noldor abandon Aman and travel to where Morgoth was, Finrod spoke against this _{splendid move} as did Fingolfin his uncle, but in the end, he joined the march in the rearguard because he could not abandon his friends, leaving this way his only true love Amarië who didn't leave Valinor because she wasn't of the Noldor race _{broken heart emoji}

Being in the rear guard accompanying the host of Fingolfin he did not take part on the Kinslaying of Alqualondë _{where Fëanor stopped being rightfully mad and stated being a yerk} and was forced to travel the frozen wasteland of Helcaraxë an icy landbridge connecting Araman with Beleriand, here they heard the Doom of Mandos _{Valar _God with the gift of foresight} and part of his host and his father Finarfin just said FUCK IT and returned, the host of Fingolfin went on and Finrod being Finrod couldn't abandon his friends and continue with some of his people

When they arrived at Beleriand they face the forces of Morgoth in the Dagor-nuin-Giliath, _{Battle-under-Stars} and they were victorious setting the Siege of Angband _{fuck you Morgoth} Finrod built a huge guard tower called Minas Tirith _{the OG Minas Tirith} in Tol Sirion blocking the pass through the river, and his brother Angrod and Aegnor became his vassals in Dorthonion, later a council was celebrated where the ugly truth of Fëanor and his sons was revealed to all of the Noldor about the Kinslaying and the burning of the ships which previously left Finrod and his people stranded in Helcaraxë,_{told you they were a bunch of assholes} here Maedhros firstborn of Fëanor _{who died in the battle because he tried to Leroy Jenkins a bunch of Balrogs} passed the kingship to Fingolfin _{the most badass of all the Noldor}

With the long peace that bright the Siege of Angband, Finrod often traveled with his Turgon his cousin, a fateful night Ulmo _{Valar of the Sea} gave them each one a vision in their dreams which gave them the urge to build a mighty fortress to defend against Morgoth, this way with the guidance of Thingol King of the forest of Doriath, started the construction of Nargothrond with the help of the dwarfs of the Blue Mountains which he rewarded greatly forming a big friendship and naming Felagund which means Lord of the Caves _{yeah, making friends all over the place}

Now buckle up because in this time of peace is where you will learn why friendship is spelled with F of Finrod, he often wandered east to Ossiriand where he befriended the Green Elves who lived there, but in the meantime, Thingol learned of the Kinslaying and became angry with his friends the Sons of Finarfin for hiding the truth from him, here Angrod spoke against the followers of Fëanor and the two houses _{Fëanor's and Finarfin's} came to bad terms, Galadriel traveled to Nargothrond where a feast was held with his siblings and she asked his favorite brother _{they're are so sweet} why didn't he wedded someone in these new lands and he answered with an oath, that he would not leave anything to a son to pass on, in part because he misses his only love Amarië _{these are not tears it is an optical flood}

Finrod continued with his travels east, in an occasion while he was in the north part of Ossiriand he encounters the first men, the second children of Ilúvatar, they thought they were in a dream for Finrod is the fairest of the elves and he sang and talked with them because he could understand their language with ease and guess what, he became big friends with Bëor the leader of the Edain as he would call them from now on, Men were living in Ossiriand but the Green Elves didn't want that so Finrod directed them to Dorthonion where Angrod and Aegnor lived _{I want this guy to be my best friend}

Eventually, the Dagor Bragollach _{the Battle of the Sudden Flame} erupted where the forces of Morgoth flooded with fire the north of Beleriand, Finrod went to help his brothers _{who sadly died before he could help them} but he was cut off from his forces and was about to be killed, but was saved by Barahir a descendant of Bëor who defended the elf with a wall of spears, this made Finrod pledged an oath of _{you guess it!} friendship and help to Barahir and his kin and the elf gifted him his ring which would be called from that moment on as The Ring of Barahir _{that's the one Aragorn was using in The Lord of the Rings!!! OMG!!!}

This battle was devastating for the elves, Sauron who was Morgoth's greatest lieutenant _{yeah THE Sauron from The Lord of the Rings was just an office boy for Morgoth, that's how bad this guy was} took Finrod's fortress of Minas Tirith and all the remaining sons of Fëanor were routed including Ceregorm and Curufin _{who were by far the most dickish of the dicks sons of Fëanor} who came to live with Finrod in Nargothrond, _{because Finrod has to be best friend with everyone} here enters Beren son of Barahir who came to the halls of Finrod showing the Ring of Barahir and told him of his quest to retrieve a Silmaril from the Crown of Morgoth _{the must absurd fetch quest in fantasy history but love is love, man} the request of Thingol if he wanted to marry his daughter Luthien

Finrod was bound to help Beren by his oath and he talked with his people about his purpose but, of course, fucking Celegorm and Curifin couldn't keep their pipe shut and started talking shit,_{these guys are really the worst, they even tried to kidnap Luthien, but Celegorm's dog betrayed him, doggos know best} making Finrod's people fear his destiny and forsaking him, but Finrod was the best friend in all Beleriand so he would not abandon Beren this way he and ten of his closest men parted from Nargothrond to fulfill his oath _{this guy is just the best} in their way to Angband disguised as orcs by the powers of Finrod they came to his old fortress now called Tol-in-Gaurhoth _{The Isle of Werewolves} Sauron send to capture them, Sauron and Finrod battle with songs of power _{a rap battle} but Sauron was lit with his words and won _{Finrod won in my heart SHUT UP!} capturing the companions

Imprisoned, a werewolf came to the one by one and started devouring them, Finrod and Beren were to be eaten last because Sauron felt that the truth of their quest was kept from him by one of these two, but when the werewolf approached Finrod he displayed all his power and might, breaking his chains and slaying the beast his hands and teeth _{Finrod OP, badass and OP} but even if he achieved to slay the werewolf and freed his friend Beren he was too badly wounded and perished in the dark dungeons of his former fortress, and thus he died, the most beloved of the Noldor elves, the fairest and true friend of all who showed mercy and compassion

But his spirit endured and was sent to the Halls of Mandos in Valinor and thanks to his great deeds _{basically not being an asshole like his crazy family, calling them out in their bullshit and, yeah, being big friends with everyone} his body was resurrected and now he walks with his father Finarfin under the trees of Valinor and finally he was able to be reunited with his love Amarië, a happy ending after a life of ruin and toil, where he stood strong bearing the banner of friendship _{MY FAVORITE!} _{_{FUCK THE SONS OF THAT SON OF A BITCH}}
