Uno de los municipios más turísticos, podría decir de Colombia y del departamento de Antioquia, por su exuberante piedra del peñol, que no es más que una roca de 1.890 metros de altura, el cual, podemos subir a través de 700 escalones aproximadamente 🥵. Pero, vale la pena! Porque a medida que asciendes la vista es espectacular.

One of the most touristic municipalities, I could say of Colombia and the department of Antioquia, for its exuberant rock of the peñol, which is nothing more than a rock of 1,890 meters high, which, we can climb through 700 steps approximately 🥵. But, it is worth it! Because as you ascend the view is spectacular.

Un pueblito paisa que se encuentra a 2 horas de medellín, por la carretera noroeste que desde que la tomas pasas por unos pueblitos hermosos dónde te deleitas la vista con paisajes de valles, agricultura, flores y un clima extremadamente delicioso, si te das unos minutos y paras en la carretera te puedes tomar un chocolatito caliente... En un establo donde vas a ver ponis y caballos que puedes alimentar con zanahoria, también vacas y toros.

A small paisa town located 2 hours from Medellin, on the northwest highway that from the moment you take it you pass through some beautiful villages where you can enjoy the view with landscapes of valleys, agriculture, flowers and an extremely delicious climate, if you take a few minutes and stop on the road you can take a hot chocolate... In a stable where you will see ponies and horses that you can feed with carrots, also cows and bulls.

Lo primero que hicimos fue una breve parada en toda la entrada, que desde ahí se visualiza la piedra, sobre un puente para ver el embalse artificial que más tarde navegamos como un tour que ofrecen en unos ferry s dónde disfrutamos en grupo con música, calorcito, cerveza. ¡El paseo es corto, desde lejos pudimos observar con curiosidad una de las casas del narcotraficante Pablo Escobar, y no es lo novedoso, lo realmente increíble son los colores del agua, los senderos y colinas que lo arropan!

The first thing we did was a brief stop at the entrance, which from there you can see the stone, on a bridge to see the artificial reservoir that later we sailed as a tour offered in some ferry s where we enjoyed a group with music, warmth, beer. The ride is short, from afar we could observe with curiosity one of the houses of drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, and it is not the novelty, what is really amazing are the colors of the water, the trails and hills that surround it!

EL EMBALSE .

Aquí comienza la aventura, pues luego de bajar del carro por 2 horas de carretera y bellos paisajes, fuimos a un puerto dónde ofrecen paseos de una media hora, dependiendo del servicio. El costo del tour es de 10 mil pesos por persona, es decir, unos 2,5 $ por persona.. pero, ese precio lo conseguimos pidiendo rebaja, ya que, otros lo ofrecían a un precio superior y nosotros éramos un grupo grande. Es interesante este paseo porque tiene su historia, para construirlo tuvieron que reubicar la población del municipio del peñol y parte de guatapé. Entonces mientras navegas con una cerveza en mano, por el calor, te imaginas todas esas personas que tuvieron que dejar sus casas y raíces para que en un futuro se convirtiera en una represa, que también es aprovechada por el turismo y deportes extremos acuáticos.

The reservoir

Here begins the adventure, because after getting out of the car for 2 hours of road and beautiful landscapes, we went to a port where they offer rides of half an hour, depending on the service. The cost of the tour is 10 thousand pesos per person, that is, about $ 2.5 per person, but we got that price by asking for a discount, since others offered it at a higher price and we were a large group.
This ride is interesting because it has its history, to build it they had to relocate the population of the municipality of El Peñol and part of Guatapé. So while you navigate with a beer in hand, because of the heat, you imagine all those people who had to leave their homes and roots so that in the future it would become a dam, which is also used for tourism and extreme water sports.

Guatapé

¿Cómo les describo esta parte sin que me emocione? ¡Es muchísimo color! Es vida, alegría, música, y turístico... Bajando del puerto, luego del paseo en el ferry, caminamos 2 cuadras hasta llegar al centro del pueblo que te recibe un pasillo de sombrillas y casas con zócalos que relatan un poco con sus imágenes la historia y origen de la colonización antioqueña. Ventas de artesanías de la localidad, hermosos callejones que están convertidos en café restaurante, bares, tiendas de recuerdos entre otros. Los locales también ofrecen música tradicional.

How can I describe this part without getting excited? It's so much color! It is life, joy, music, and tourism.... Coming down from the port, after the ferry ride, we walk 2 blocks until we reach the center of town, where you are greeted by a corridor of umbrellas and houses with skirting boards that tell a little of the history and origin of the Antioquian colonization with their images. Sales of local handicrafts, beautiful alleys that are converted into cafe-restaurants, bars, souvenir stores among others. The locals also offer traditional music.

PIEDRA DEL PEÑOL

La siguiente y ya última atracción de nuestro paseo es el del monolito de 702 escalones, literal es la más visitada, por la experiencia de subir, y también por el panorama que te ofrece a medida de que asciende. Para acceder a la "PIEDRA DEL PEÑOL", pagas una entrada de 20 mil pesos que son aproximadamente 5$ por persona a una cooperativa que se encarga del mantenimiento y conservación de la misma.

The next and last attraction of our tour is the monolith of 702 steps, literally the most visited, for the experience of climbing, and also for the panorama it offers as it ascends. To access the "PIEDRA DEL PEÑOL", you pay an entrance fee of 20 thousand pesos which is approximately 5$ per person to a cooperative that is in charge of the maintenance and conservation of the monolith.

Para subir es bueno tener un poco de condición física, no nivel Dios, pero siempre es algo exigente! A mí me costó un poco bajar porque me dolía un poco la rodilla, aún así lo hice muy lento aprovechando la vista, agradeciendo, admirando.

To climb it is good to have some physical condition, not God level, but it is always something demanding! It took me a while to go down because my knee was a little sore, but I still did it very slowly, taking advantage of the view, appreciating, admiring.

En la cima te consigues no solo con la vista hermosa del embalse, sino que te puedes deleitar de un café, gaseosa o chocolate caliente en unas tiendas muy bonitas con gente agradable dispuesta a atenderte con la más linda amabilidad, también te puedes llevar tu recuerdito de la piedra y las fotos más impresionantes que te puedas tomar.
Este sitio lo puedes aprovechar desde mucho antes de subir, porque es tan hermoso que por dónde la veas te saldrán fotos espectaculares. Si cuentas con un buen presupuesto, también ofrecen tour en helicóptero que te pasean por todo lo que ya les he mostrado y mucho más por las alturas por: 200 mil pesos que son 52 $ aproximadamente. Así no tienes que subir esos 700 y tantos escalones para deleitar tu mirada.

At the top you get not only with the beautiful view of the reservoir, but you can enjoy a coffee, soda or hot chocolate in some very nice stores with nice people willing to serve you with the nicest kindness, you can also take your souvenir of the stone and the most impressive photos you can take.
You can take advantage of this site long before going up, because it is so beautiful that wherever you see it, you will get spectacular pictures. If you have a good budget, they also offer a helicopter tour that will take you through everything I have already shown you and much more for 200 thousand pesos, which is approximately $52. So you don't have to climb those 700 and so many steps to delight your eyes.

Así finaliza mi pequeña aventura, que comenzó desde muy temprano y tratamos y de visitar los lugares más atractivos en un día. Valió mucho la pena, aunque si nos hubiésemos tomado con más relax. Espero les haya servido la información y que si vienen a Colombia, a la región de Antioquia o Medellín, se atrevan a acercarse a este hermoso municipio.
