Children in the garden of life

This is what children do.

They enter our lives, live inside our hearts, making them their home, ransacking and making sure they leave no stone unturned and while at it, sprinkling colorful dusts and sugar high rainbows in every corner.

They see the good, the better, the vulnerable, the ugly and the worst, yet still embrace us with open arms. When our seemingly fortified adult hearts are wounded, they come and lay their little hands on us, gently (sometimes playfully and roughly too 😅) caressing the pain like how they know best and kissing our boo-boos away. Their love is so simple and deep, it's magnificently made from the heart of the Father.

Oftentimes, they remind us of the beauty we once beheld and enjoyed as a child, yet have slowly tucked away in tiny boxes deep in the cellar of our hearts.

They are the very reflection of ourselves, carved and refined, shiny and sleek. Yet they bring their own features, identity, character and voice. To see them bloom is like unboxing a mystery gift, so exciting it's almost gut wrenching. In a good way.

They push our every button, play our every fear, outrun every length of patience, and even make us cry. Yet in this insane journey called parenthood, they make life beautiful with their giggly squeals and smiles, their tiny hands pulling your face close to give the sloppiest of kisses, their bright and wide eyed wonder looking up to you with outstretched arms, and their strong little brave hearts, whispering the greatest hopes and grace, which when you listen closely, are the very words you've prayed over, spoken over, and comforted them with day and night.

And even as they grow in size and stature, your gaze will forever see the little child they once were within. I hope as you do that you'll also see that little child you once were deep within you.
