Finally the moment I have been waiting for months has arrived, we are now with our family enjoying Christmas and despite being on vacation, we have worked a lot, I am extremely tired but completely ready to finally receive Christmas, two days ago my mom came to visit us and will stay as always with us for a month, this was accompanied by starting to make the hallacas, typical Christmas food in Venezuela, I love hallacas but preparing them can be quite exhausting. Today I want to share with you a little bit of what has been our Christmas days and how we are preparing to receive Christmas Eve.
Yesterday we prepared the meat to stuff the hallacas, it must be prepared a day before to be delicious, this time I bought 3 chickens and 3 kilos of meat, plus 3 kilos of pork, we were almost all afternoon chopping the vegetables that takes this stew and it was very tiring, Even so it was done “fast” and we had time to go to a Christmas activity that was prepared in our building, there was music and candy for the children, plus a neighbor who dressed up as Santa hahaha, the children were having fun for a while sharing among neighbors.
All day today we were busy making the Hallacas and it literally took us all day, we cleaned the plantain leaves, cut them, arranged the table and started to assemble each hallaca, it sounds easy, but it really took us almost 3 or 4 hours cleaning and cutting the plantain leaves.
Ordering things on the table was simple, but we only put small parts of each ingredient since my table is small, when we ran out we filled the containers again, I thought this would be super fast but I could not be more wrong, we made each hallaca with a lot of filling and patience since in a year of not making them we forget many things, however, after a while we were improving the technique and effectiveness although that did not make us take less time, my mom and I were assembling while my husband tied the hallacas.
While we were preparing these delicious hallacas, we listened to Christmas music and drank wine.
And after many hours of work I got my reward, try my first hallaca this year, it was delicious, I really can not explain the happiness that gives me eat hallacas, the memories that brings me this food and that feeling that we are really in Christmas, a time of year that is beautiful and full of hope and joy, even though I feel totally destroyed by all the work, believe me it was worth it, we are very happy, we managed to make 100 hallacas we had never made so many and that also fills me with satisfaction because we always had few hallacas and I was left wanting to eat more, in short, we are completely ready for tomorrow and I am anxious to deliver the Christmas gifts to my son, I'm sure he will love all the toys he will have.
