I'm going to tell you about how I took my first steps in music, from starting to play the guitar to composing my own songs.
Guitarra
Mi acercamiento a la música fue algo inesperado e impensado. Ocurrió en el año 2017, cuando mi hermana le pidió prestada a mi padre su guitarra. Ella vive conmigo, y mi padre en su propia casa, entonces trajo la guitarra para nuestro hogar. En el transcurso de una semana mi hermana no agarró la guitarra en ningún momento, ya que trabajaba muchas horas y llegaba cansada. Fue entonces cuando, de forma casual y repentina, se me ocurrió extraerla de la funda hermosa que tenía y probarla. Aquel momento lo recuerdo como el inicio de algo mágico.
No poseía ningún conocimiento previo de música ni del instrumento en sí. Fue todo nuevo para mí. Comencé buscando videos en Youtube, recuerdo que escribí: “Cómo comenzar a tocar la guitarra”. Y allí empezó todo, en un simple pero valioso video que explicaba la postura, la digitación de los dedos en las cuerdas y los acordes básicos para tocar de forma sencilla.
A los pocos días, una vez que había adquirido los conocimientos más básicos, me estaba aburriendo de la “teoría” y quise ir directamente a la “práctica”. Entonces decidí buscar canciones que me gusten para aprender a tocarlas. En ese momento escuchaba mucho a Ed Sheeran (músico y cantante británico) y mi canción preferida era Photograph (y lo sigue siendo), por lo tanto me enfoqué en aprender esa canción.
No fue tan simple, sus acordes son algo complejos, pero aún así busqué videos en internet para aprender la digitación. Lo que más me atraía de la música de esa canción era su introducción, el punteo que hace con la guitarra me fascinó desde siempre. Entonces claro que mi primer objetivo era aprender a hacerla. No recuerdo bien, pero habré tardado una semana en aprenderla bien, cada día me sentaba y, mientras aprendía nuevos acordes o tips para tocar la guitarra, practicaba la introducción de Photograph. Fue muy satisfactorio para mí notar el progreso y la evolución de mi nueva “habilidad”, por más lento que fuera, era algo que nunca me había creído capaz de hacer.

My approach to music was something unexpected and unthinkable. It happened in 2017, when my sister borrowed my father's guitar. She lives with me, and my father in his own house, so he brought the guitar for our home. Over the course of a week my sister didn't grab the guitar at any time, as she was working long hours and came home tired. It was then that, casually and suddenly, it occurred to me to take it out of the beautiful case it had and try it out. I remember that moment as the beginning of something magical.
I had no prior knowledge of music or the instrument itself. It was all new to me. I started looking for videos on Youtube, I remember I wrote: "How to start playing the guitar". And there it all started, in a simple but valuable video that explained the posture, fingering of the fingers on the strings and the basic chords to play in a simple way.
A few days later, once I had acquired the most basic knowledge, I was getting bored of "theory" and wanted to go straight to "practice". So I decided to look for songs that I liked to learn how to play them. At that time I was listening a lot to Ed Sheeran (British musician and singer) and my favorite song was Photograph (and still is), so I focused on learning that song.
It wasn't that simple, his chords are a bit complex, but I still looked for videos on the internet to learn the fingering. What attracted me most about the music of that song was its introduction, the plucking he does with the guitar has always fascinated me. So of course my first goal was to learn how to play it. I don't remember well, but it must have taken me a week to learn it well, every day I sat down and, while I was learning new chords or tips to play the guitar, I practiced Photograph's introduction. It was very satisfying for me to notice the progress and evolution of my new "skill", as slow as it was, it was something I had never thought I was capable of doing.

Simultáneo al aprendizaje de la guitarra, cada vez que aprendía a tocar una canción estaba desarrollando (inconscientemente) el canto. Yo fui (y sigo siendo) una persona reservada y tímida, el único lugar en el que cantaba era en mi casa, con mi familia, aunque aún así no me animaba y cantaba a un volumen bajo. Lentamente me fui desenvolviendo más y al menos con mi familia se me fue la vergüenza.
En el 2018 decidí probar clases de canto. Tomé 7 meses de clases, luego dejé por cuestiones económicas. Durante ese tiempo aprendí mucho, fue un cambio radical. Aprender sobre técnica vocal me ayudó a sacarle provecho a mi voz, siendo consciente del volumen y del control de la misma, dándome mayor seguridad al cantar cualquier canción.
Luego estudié dos años de Música en la Facultad de Artes, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, institución que me formó con una base teórica sólida y me ayudó en la coordinación y el trabajo en equipo.

Simultaneous to learning the guitar, every time I learned to play a song I was (unconsciously) developing singing. I was (and still am) a reserved and shy person, the only place where I sang was at home, with my family, although even then I was not encouraged and sang at a low volume. Slowly I began to develop more and at least with my family I was no longer ashamed.
In 2018 I decided to try singing lessons. I took 7 months of lessons, then I stopped due to economic issues. During that time I learned a lot, it was a radical change. Learning about vocal technique helped me to get the most out of my voice, being aware of the volume and control of it, giving me more confidence when singing any song.
Then I studied two years of Music at the Faculty of Arts, National University of La Plata, an institution that formed me with a solid theoretical basis and helped me in coordination and teamwork.

No recuerdo la fecha exacta, pero sí que fue en diciembre de 2017, cuando surgió el boceto de mi primer canción propia. Esto sucedió debido a que estaba sufriendo la ruptura de la relación con mi pareja y estaba buscando en Youtube canciones que me hagan acordar a aquella persona y los momentos vividos a su lado. Al no encontrar ninguna canción que me representara en su totalidad, decidí levantarme de la cama; acto seguido agarré un papel, un bolígrafo y me senté a escribir. Simplemente expresé lo que sentía en el momento, tratando de que rime un poco para que tenga forma de canción, hasta que se formó la primera estrofa.
Aún conservo ese papel, ese boceto que dio comienzo a mi camino como letrista.

I don't remember the exact date, but I do remember that it was in December 2017, when the sketch of my first own song came up. This happened because I was suffering the breakup of the relationship with my partner and I was looking on Youtube for songs that make me remember that person and the moments lived by his side. Not finding any song that represented me in its entirety, I decided to get out of bed; then I grabbed a paper, a pen and sat down to write. I simply expressed what I was feeling at the moment, trying to make it rhyme a little so that it would have the form of a song, until the first stanza was formed.
I still have that piece of paper, that sketch that started me on my path as a lyricist.

Esa fue la primera de las miles de frases que compuse luego. No es una gran frase, no posee una gran metáfora. Es una simple conexión de palabras que surgió al expresar mis sentimientos. Pero aún así es de mis canciones preferidas porque fue la primera, y sin ella quizá no existirían todas las demás. Luego me fui perfeccionando como letrista, y lo sigo haciendo, es un camino interminable. Por lo general trato de crear frases que logren plasmar el mensaje que quiero transmitir, pero incluyendo metáforas, aunque a veces me inclino por aforismos para dar un mensaje más directo y conciso, esto depende del contexto, las intenciones y el enfoque de cada canción en particular.
Así fueron mis inicios en el hermoso camino de la música. Este recorrido apenas está comenzando, seguiré nutriéndome de experiencias mágicas para plasmarlas en nuevas obras. Estoy emocionado por tener este espacio disponible para compartirlas con ustedes.

That was the first of thousands of sentences I composed later. It is not a great phrase, it does not have a great metaphor. It's a simple connection of words that came from expressing my feelings. But it's still one of my favorite songs because it was the first one, and without it maybe all the others wouldn't exist. Then I got better and better as a lyricist, and I continue to do so, it's a never-ending road. I usually try to create phrases that manage to capture the message I want to convey, but including metaphors, although sometimes I lean towards aphorisms to give a more direct and concise message, this depends on the context, intentions and approach of each particular song.
These were my beginnings in the beautiful path of music. This journey is just beginning, I will continue to nourish myself with magical experiences to capture them in new works. I am excited to have this space available to share them with you.
