Slow Living : Proof Of Walk
Greetings!
If any of you follow my account here on Hive, you may have noticed that I have posted everyday this past week. Back in the day when I had more time and energy for content creation, I used to post every day, sometimes twice a day, even right through the crypto winter. I remember during the time I came under attack by the Emperor, I ramped up my posts to 3 times a day for several months. Those were the days! I really did enjoy posting daily.
A lot has happened since then that took away some of my available time, so I dropped off to the occasional post on here. I still kept up the video posts via DTube because that's my preferred medium of content creation, video, but even that dropped off after a while.
Since embracing slow living I have cut off some of the other time consumers and now some time has opened up for content creation once again - for now anyway. It's a little different this time though. I am approaching it sort of like a job (lol). After all, a lot of what we're doing here is farming crypto with our "proof of brain". Well then, a schedule is needed, albeit a not so rigid one, but a schedule nonetheless.
For the Sunday posts, I'm going to try making it a long form one, with a summary of the rest of the week. It will primarily serve as a journal of sorts for me, but entertainment for whomever it pleases. I will also more than likely include a video to go with the post.
Slow living : Proof Of Walk /
To kick things off, I thought I'd create a week's worth of me getting out and walking in nature, come rain or shine. It's a kind of accountability thing for me, as well as an opportunity to live slowly and get some good exercise too. I've actually been walking virtually every day since the beginning of this month of October. At first my legs were complaining a bit, but now they've adapted to the task.
Monday /
Monday was an ultra-productive day for me. I got so much done, starting quite early in the day compared to usual. I intentionally went to bed much earlier on Sunday so I could kick off the week firing on all cylinders.
I started the day with a one hour walk in the fresh air to clear my mind and get the blood flowing. It was also time for me to think about and meditate on the tasks ahead. I find I think best when I'm the walking, or in the shower. Those are my two best places when I get hit by very good ideas.
I settled in a cafe with my old laptop and churned through my to-do list. I think I achieved flow, or was very close to it. I did all my most laborious/boring admin stuff first. Those things that have to be done. Then I did the fun stuff like outline all my blog posts for the week. Remember, I'm bringing a more efficient system to content creation now.
PeakD's scheduling function is a godsend! I was able to create all my posts and schedule them for the appropriate days. I always have thoughts and ideas in my head that I want to blog about. When I only blog on the day I post, sometimes I forget those ideas. By creating the blog posts when I was already in a state of flow, I was able to express all the thoughts comprehensively.
Having scheduled all my posts, I'was then set to dedicate the rest of the Hive week engaging with other people's posts, including replying to comments on my posts if I get them.
Tuesday /
Somewhat less productive than Monday, Tuesday started off grey and windy. There was a brief moment when the sun showed it's lovely face through the thick grey clouds, but that was short lived. It was surprisingly mild though, with temperatures reaching 19 degrees at times. It meant I, and most other people that left their homes early, was over dressed.
I questioned going for my early walk as usual, since I didn't want to get all sweaty especially since I was going to be meeting people physically later on. Nah, consistency is key, so I went on the walk, albeit at a slower pace.
I didn't manage to get through all the items on my to-do list, but that's ok. The most important once were done. I think sometimes a to-do list is somewhat ambitious. I think this must have been one of those moments.
I did manage to engage with more posts on Hive on the day. I checked up on some old blockchain friends, some of whom had not posted in a while, to see how they're doing. It turns out that a few of them hand started posting again recently, I just hadn't seen their posts probably due to the time differences between where we all live. I was happy to see that some people had made some interesting changes in their lives, including blockchain activity related ones. Good stuff.
The wind intensified to the point that I was convinced we were having a storm. The cafe I was working in had to close the outdoor sitting and bring the furniture indoors because it had become unsafe. Gusts of wind would periodically lift a chair entirely off the ground and hoist it down the road. It was quite dangerous for passers by so the staff made the safety call.
[rant] As it happened, there was nobody there anyway. Normally the outdoor sitting space would be occupied by smokers from neighbouring establishments that haven't purchased a single thing from the cafe. They'd sit there with their bottle of water, or whatnot, smoking all day and making the space unavailable for the cafe's customers. When a seating space does open up, the amount of smoke coming from them make the place uninviting to non-smokers who, by the way, are the majority. [/rant]
Wednesday /
Once you've been to enough hospitals, especially in the same country, you realise that they're mostly all the same. The modern ones that are being built, or rather the older ones that are being renovated, around the country are even more the same since there's kind of an established architecture they all conform to. It's similar to airports where you have your arrivals & departures, check in counters, luggage carrousels, e.t.c.
I've spent a lot of time in hospitals in the past years. I wasn't ill or anything, I was there for other people - family and friends. It's funny, I remember joking right at the beginning of the pandemic that I was already an expert referring to how many times I had to wear N95 masks and wash or disinfect my hands with medical grade stuff.
My dad had a major surgery back then that left him severely immuno-suppressed for a short while. I had to be extra careful not to spread any germs to him what so ever. The hand washing, the masks, the isolation e.t.c, were things I was already doing before the bug hit us.
Wednesday was a routine visit to the hospital. He is diabetic, and has mobility issues. I had to take him in but couldn't be inside the appointment room with him due to covid restrictions. Sat at the waiting room looking around, I thought about how familiar that space felt to me, even though it was the second time I had ever been to that particular hospital. The scrubs, the wheelchairs and mobile beds. The two machines standing in the corner; a coffee machine and a "fruit" machine. No, it doesn't sell fruits, it sells chocolate bars, biscuits, crisps and sweets. All the stuff I shouldn't be eating if I didn't want to end up with the same chronic disease as my dad, to which I'm already susceptible to by way of genetics.
It was also a sharp reminder to keep with my daily walks. A good diet, exercise, rest and psychological (some will call it spiritual) balance are all equally important.
Since the hospital appointment was early in the day, which is when I usually take my walk, I had to set out later in the day in the gusty wind. They winds were even stronger than Tuesday's, making for a pretty challenging walk, and definitely no outdoor video of me talking.
Hey look! Bitcoin to the full moon! That's right, on the "Blood Moon", Bitcoin achieved a brand new all time high. Exciting times ahead.
Thursday /
The day began in a deceptively cloudy and rainy way, but that very quickly gave way to clear blue skies. I once again set out early to capitalise on the relatively calm morning but was hit by an unexpectedly chilly breeze when I opened my front door. Actually now that I think about it, I had been aware of the imminent change in temperature since it had been predicted by the weather app on my iPhone. Hadn't payed it much attention which is why I had to alter my choice of attire, after experiencing a slap of reality on opening the door, to something more appropriate for the temperature which was 10 degrees lower than the previous day.
Ethereum to the mooooon!
A few minutes into my walk, I decided to take a quick look at the crypto market and how things were doing. Most coins were off to the races following the Bitcoin ATH. Ethereum, as expected, took off like a rocket. Mind you, Solana was moving even faster, but given the market cap, Ethereum requires a lot more momentum to move in that way.
by the time I finished my walk, $ETH was testing the previous high. Exciting stuff. By the time I arrived at my cafe, it seemed as though Ehtereum was equal to the previous ATH, from my app anyway, but folks on Twitter were congratulating themselves on the "new ATH". Looking at Coingekco it appeared that, yes indeed, $eth had smashed the previous high, trampling over it as would a freight train over a pumpkin left on the tracks.
Then it happened, as I looked more closely to decipher why the price was not achieved on Coinbase, boom! Someone dumped something (probably Bitcoin), so the bots dumped Ether and most other coins by a significant amount. This caused a cascade of sells and long liquidations with some exchanges wicking all the way down to $8k BTC. Imagine that, 8k! I hope it was a display error and someone didn't get rekt.
There are so many manipulators in this crypto game. Now more than ever you have to be vigilant and careful. Excessive greed right now will probably lead to ruin. Inadequate caution will get you either rekt, scammed or hacked. I already got a couple of emails asking me to "sign in" to this or that exchange lest my account be "disabled". Imagine if I weren't a savvy and cautious user of the Internet. I can't imagine how many people have probably fallen for that beautifully crafted scam.
Friday /
Friday saw another visit to a hospital, albeit a different one for a different reason. I had to drive on a couple of major roads and a whole bunch of winding countryside-like ones to get there.
Hidden away in North West London in a place called Stanmore, the Hospital looks like it was built almost a hundred years ago. Although there is a brand new building that recently went up in the middle of the hospital village, so it's probably only a matter of time before the older buildings are replaced with a giant structure, much like many hospitals in London these days.
It was cold but the sun was out so it didn't feel too freezing as long as I could hide behind something to shield myself from the wind. It's the wind that often makes things seem colder than they should be - wind chill factor.. I had to stand outside for over an hour waiting for my dad. Their Covid regulations were very strict, so I had to pass my dad to an orderly who wheeled his chair indoors.
Standing outside I got to admire the surroundings which was really quiet and a little melancholic even though the sky was beautifully bright. I could have sat down on one of the benches or chairs dotted around the property, but they all looked a little fragile to me. They looked more ornamental than functional, if you know what I mean.
The sky was remarkably busy due to the location. Being on the west of town, Stanmore is not too far from Heathrow airport and couple of domestic landing strips including one used by the RAF. As such, the sky was full of a mix of trans-continental liners and small crafts, at least one of which passed over every minute or so. Looking up above, one could see up to five crafts in the air at different altitudes at all times.
That wraps up the week folks. Even though I did get out to walk on Saturday and Sunday, I didn't make any videos, or at least didn't include them or write any journal either. I figured I'll just take those days off to chill with friends and family, as well as deal with some non-content creation aspects of life :)
It's a bit of a long-winded post (pun not intended 😃), and I don't actually expect anyone to read the whole thing, but it's been fun for me. Hopefully do it again next week.
Peace & Love,
Adé
Sorry that you have to spend soooooooo much time in hospital, your plate has been full this week, you're doing great helping your dad.
Cheers!
Thanks man. He's improving so fingers crossed he'll regain his independence soon enough. 🙏
