Sunday morning long run

Today was just a lot of fun! Despite having some early morning obligations, I found some time for a relaxed easy paced (heartrate zone 2) long run. The weather was just perfect - around 8 c with quite some sunshine.

I wanted to do a new route with some technical elements, I found one that featured paved (road, bikelanes and hiking paths, unpaved (grass, mud including a mountain bike trail) and a small climb.

The pace in heartrate zone 2 felt very relaxed. I finished the run as I had an other event scheduled for later today, but I felt this would allow me to do real long distances (50 - 60k) after the Februari beach marathon without any extra preparation (really looking forward to doing a first ultra in 2026!)

The route I found today was fun, running most of the time next to the water, giving typical Dutch views such as:

I did take some nutrition with me today, at 40 min in I took my first isotonic energy gel (sis), at 80 min in I took a second gel. Because I took my camelbag with me with electrolyte (sis hydro), I could drink a few sips every few minutes. Because I started a bit later than I normally do On Sunday’s I also had some breakfast, so when I returned around lunchtime , I was still having more than enough energy (huge benefit of zone 2 runs!)

This 26k run took my weekly total to 71.2 km running spread over 7 days of running (plus I did 80.9 km cycling). So overall quite happy how this week went!

Happy running!

Awesome run! That's some great distance and your heart rate was doing great, well done. Plus you burned a whole lot of calories out there, good thing you got home just in time for lunch. I've never done a run that long, just marches in the military with a heavy backpack and carrying a rifle. The good old days... lol

Those views are amazing, the Dutch country side is beautiful. Nothing like here in southern California, where it's mountains to the east and ocean to the west. Then pretty much built in city everywhere in between. At one point Orange County had a lot of orange orchards, but those days are long gone sadly.

Thanks man! Mountain & ocean also have their charms! Hope to run Big Sur Marathon one day!

Marches are brutal, here I am in control I determine speed & distance, not knowing how long and how heavy it will be does not allow you to break it down into small milestones that easily as you can do with a marathon. Not being in control can be heavy!

I got nervous that you meant the sunshine was as in the first picture, but the coming ones was way better in showing the weather 🤩
I so love the views and the landscape in general. Many similarities to Denmark while also screaming "not Denmark", if that makes sense 😁

The distance is awesome! I don't know how you do this, it is truly mind-blowing!

And also, the distance made me think of that dumbass shit my daughter do 🤣🤣

Haha my kids also do that. Stupid stuff but harmless!

Hope to do a roadtrip to Denmark as I hear great stories about it!

Absolutely harmless, but it is sooo stupid 😂😂

I'll be expecting you to run all the way 😉 Just kidding, but do let me know when you drop by 🙌🏼
