Starting my new trainingsblock

Hey!
2 weeks ago I finished the Amsterdam Marathon and took some time to recover.
Now I am ready to start a new trainingsblock preparing for 2 marathons in the first half of 2025.

I signed up for both Rotterdam 2025 and the first edition of a coast (trail)marathon these runs will be in early Februari and early April.

goals:

  • Coast marathon - finish the race, no time goal. I never did an unpaved race, let alone in the sand. I will be happy to finish it without any major injury.
  • Rotterdam 2025 - 3:20 goal time. This is my hometown. Ran Rotterdam in 2024 and know what to expect.

Trainingsplan

  • For Amsterdam I followed the Pfitzinger 12/55 plan. This time I will make a few adjustments.
  • There is not sufficient time between Coast marathon and Rotterdam to have a seperate training schedule - so I will just train for Rotterdam and see the coast run as a longer, long run.
  • Last trainingsblock the speedwork didn't go that well with me (felt my knees during the sprints) - I will make the adjustment to replace short intervals with marathon pace 10-15k this will both do some good for my pace and increase my weekly milage a little while reducing the stress on my body.
  • More time! last trainingsblock was 12 weeks, this time I can take a bit longer as it is still 160 days until Rotterdam.

** Equipment **

  • I ran Amsterdam with my hydrovest - which I honestly regretted. the extra weight was doable if I would manage to keep my drinking strategy - but I failed to do so - drinking not sufficient causing cramps along the way. For Coastmarathon I will need to use the vest but for Rotterdam I will just use the stations.
  • Shoes - I currently have 2 trainers plus the meta speed paris for racing. I will need to swap 1 trainer pair for this block and get a trail running pair so going to be an expensive end of the year!

** Today's run**
Today I did an easy 14km - I definitly felt I am still a bit sick - having my heartrate above 180 bpm for moderate pace (normal 140). But consistancy is key, unless I am bedbound I will just run and adjust my pace a bit. With regards to weather - I will not run when there a thunderstorm but apart from that just go for it.

Happy Running!
