Fun run

Garmin must be frustrated with me, ever since last weeks peak week it stating that my trainingsreadiness is low and I should take a complete day off. Today I felt the emotional urge to just put in some work, not too much but enough to let some frustration come out of the system.

While I do realize that I cannot just keep stacking hard runs, I made a compromise today by setting up this training;

  • warmup 3 km
  • 5 min @ 3:50 - 3:55
  • 5 min walk / jog
  • 5 min @ 3:50 - 3:55
  • 5 min walk
  • 2 km cooling down jog.

This is a compromise as I would need to make it atleast 18 min (3x 6 min) to make it a true LT run - but that doesn’t feel that responsible atm. Furthermore the pace 3:50 - 3:55 is faster than my current LT so it just felt good to nail these intervals (speed at interval 1: 3:51 /km / speed at interval 2: 3:52 / km) but would be a little too fast for LT workout (3:57 - 4:00 / km).

It felt great and was short enough not to do any damage, so felt like a huge mental boost!

Happy running!

Sometimes it's important to just plain recover, and I think you made a good compromise. I nice easy jog/walk is a good way to keep things loose and let the body recover.

What beautiful scenery you had for today's workout, it's gorgeous place to live. It sure looks nicer without all of that ice and snow that's for sure!

Awesome post!

Smart move on taking a day off! Also good on you to do something to keep your mind busy that is still run related so you stay on task.

I actually used to run regularly myself. I would get off work, run for an hour or 2, drink some wine, and go to bed 😅

I never gave up but my body did eventually. I got bad dehydration and had to go to the hospital. It set me back years and my body has never been the same. Moral of the story, you can have too much of a good thing 🤣

Have you experimented with double run days?

Yeah, I do that with recovery or zone 2 runs from time to time. With harder runs I find it a little too intense and notice the stacked fatigue later in the week.

For my sub 3 training after the coast I might try a recovery run after a early tempo/speed training

Nice! The mental win counts as much as the physical one sometimes. Feels like you got the best of both worlds today.

Life is made of compromises, no big deal having to do one! As long as you are good
