Checked Into A Cockroach Infested House in Japan~ Ehhhhhh

We have been in the snow so I haven't been able to update everyone here but I had to document this unpleasant part of the week we have experienced. 2 days ago we left the snow fields and returned to Osaka to return our car. We arrived at the Airbnb property just after sunset and the moment BB E opened the door, we saw two cockroaches running away. He told me straight away and I said it may just be the 2 as it is a house, there are neighbours, can be a once-off.

As I settled in moving all our luggage in, I could see a number of smaller cockroaches around the house. At this time, hubby was returning the car a few suburbs away but I took care of the pests. As the night went by after dinner, we caught over 20 little things. Not pleasant and we can clearly say it was an infestation in the house. The owner got a cleaner in to spray a few things but not acceptable to us as the little creatures kept coming out.

Just before midnight, we decided it was time we had to go tomorrow, we didn't want to stay any longer. BB E was paranoid sitting around the house, he was pretty upset. We contacted Airbnb and it took them 2 hours to come back to us by then was around 1 am Japan time. After some back and forth offering 2 nights free hotel then moving back in etc, the agent agreed it was an infestation and said we would get a full refund. At that point, I went to look for another accommodation but due to the timing, we couldn't book an acceptable Airbnb for 3 weeks at 2 am. So we booked a hotel first for yesterday and then an Airbnb from today onwards which worked out fine.

The next negotiation was to have our hotel reimbursed but Airbnb said they can only offer 20% of the price. After some back and forth, things were all refunded except for the hotel fee which will take some time. This is the second time we have had issues with Airbnb in Japan and surprisingly, it is a country that is known to be super clean. We have wasted so much valuable time on this issue and the new accommodation we have moved into so far is much better than the last.
