Camellia in my mom’s garden
When the apartment building in the backyard was demolished and neatly turned into a parking lot, we decided to plant camellias.　Now that I think about it, it was more than 10 years ago.

“I’m glad I took the plunge then and crushed it!” My mom often says.　Seeing the camellias in full bloom in early spring, I feel that my mom has made a decision for the future and everyone’s sake.

We decided to plant all different camellias anyway.　Before we decided to plant camellias, my mom had grown a number of potted camellia seedlings.　It seems that she planted a seed she picked up when she and my father went to visit Horyuji Temple a long time ago, and the seed germinated and grew in a pot.

It has been many years since my father passed away, but when I think of him sending me pictures of camellias in full bloom every year like this, I feel that I have been able to connect good memories with camellias.　I hope they will continue to bloom beautifully every year.

オカンの庭の椿
裏庭に建っていたアパートをつぶして、きれいに駐車場にした時に椿を植えることにしました。　今考えればもう１０年以上前のことだったと思います。

「あの時に思い切って潰しておいてよかったわ！」とよくオカンが話しているのですが、この様なきれいに咲き乱れる椿の花を見ていると、本当にそうしてよかったなぁ。　オカンも将来の為、みんなの為に決断をしたんだなぁとこの春先の椿が満開に咲く時期に感じます。

どうせ植えるならすべて違った椿を植えることにしました。　椿を植えると決める前に、オカンが鉢植えの椿の苗を何本も育てていました。　昔、法隆寺に父と遊びに行った時に拾った種を植えたらしく、その種が発芽して鉢に入れて育てていたようです。

父も他界してもう何年にもなるのですが、きっとこのように毎年満開の椿の写真を送ってくれるオカンを考えると、良い思い出を椿に託してつなぐことが出来たなぁと感じます。　これからも毎年きれいに咲いてほしいなぁ。
