I just got back from months wandering and realizing that some of my pictures are gone. It's not that they're gone, gone but more like, somewhere in the deep of my cluttered folders. It's partially, a mistake of mine that I keep procastinating on getting a harddisk dedicated for my pictures. I mean, I could see it now that I needed it just because I hate that I keep getting anxious, double checking of all the pictures I have uploaded on Hive. I mainly don't want to make a silly mistake that I uploaded something twice. Everything uploaded here has always been only for my hive account.
By the way, there's a classic problem that I still like somehow bring up, it feels like pictures and content uploaded here are like fleeting memories. Even after a day, it'll probably no longer be seen and seen the light of day. By that, I mean, seems like people don't really check out anything past 24 hr. I get it, maybe they don't want those curation penalty and some complicated mechanism behind the rewards. And I don't live in utopia world where majority of people do things for free or just because they have time. Do I check posts that are beyond 24 hr old? I do. When I have a lot of extra time. In fact, some of most interesting pictures and content I've consumed has been the old ones. I also like to use the search function that helped me find posts and pictures that has been posted on hive and it's a great place to find something you're probably curious about.
Oh well, anyway... I definitely should get some harddisk to stay organized and afterall, I used to talk about getting organized and ended up being the disorganized one :D
For the best experience view this post on Liketu
The second of my two external harddisks has recently died, after yet another fall. I think they were both over 10 years old. I am pretty good at letting go of the past. My most important memory is the one built inside my own brain.
Also, by now I accept that my way of organizing is a disorganized one. I understand it myself but there's no logic behind it.
@vincentnijman whoa, so apparently they also aged haha. I have to say though, my intention of uploading here was also to keep them longer and immutable. At least, hive is sort of my "online" storage except, it's public which is why sometimes I am also picky. Maybe after all, I don't need them? I still need to ponder on that hehe.
I agree that Hive is definitely some sort of replacement for my external harddisks. And , aside from that, I am pretty good in dealing with losing things. My own memory ( my brain ) is what I prefer to use. Things are just things.
I think that this is one of the major weaknesses of hive. Old information is there but not easily accessible and monetizable. It just sort of disappears. A place like reddit has great re-read value, particularly for niche topics. Instagram does the same for images. Then there are the growing pains of the hive ecosystem. I was using leo threads, but my posts just disappeared and only a few came back. I hadn't posted many images, but the ones I had posted were still gems to me. Now gone from the leo interface. Bummer.
By the way, just to let you know, I clicked on the page for the Liketu, and my antivirus pops up a warning. I'm not concerned about the site, but this seems like a potential limitation to adoption and use of this service.
@litguru It's something that seems like a broken record at this point, where even when I myself tried approach to tip and also revive old posts, people just don't have that much interest to it.
Seems like that's a bug ? I mean @elmerlin might have the answer to it. I personally don't have that problem but others with malwarebytes install might, is that browser based antivirus or just your PC?
Mine is a pc app. It might just be a problem with this app.
Hello @macchiata could you pleas explain what you mean by penalty, I’m curious and thank you for sharing such amazing pictures😃
@ibbtammy I haven't read any latest development update but from 24 houts to 72 hours the curation reward weight is decreasing compared to when you upvote something within 24 hours. It's all here if you want to know. I mean, you can follow blocktrades for latest development updates https://peakd.com/hive-139531/@blocktrades/8th-update-of-2021-on-blocktrades-work-on-hive-software
Oh thanks I will take a look at it.
