Hi Liketu,

I hiked three-quarters up the Gibraltar Rock today for the first time in a year. I'm feeling super proud of myself.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't so good; Gibraltar, being located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, experiences a Mediterranean climate. Cloud cover over Gibraltar can vary based on the time of year and weather patterns. However, leading up to winter, there are more cloud-covered days.

I hiked up the off-road stairs and walked past the World War II tunnels & Moorish castle.

My aim was to reach the viewing point overlooking Gibraltar airport and runway to watch some planes take off and land. Gibraltar has a unique feature that makes it challenging for pilots. The airport's runways intersect Winston Churchill Avenue, the main road leading from Gibraltar into Spain.

When a plane lands, road traffic and pedestrian routes must be closed, allowing the plane to cross the live road runway.

Pilots receive specialized training for landing at Gibraltar, and air traffic control monitors weather conditions closely. The airport has modern navigation and safety equipment to assist pilots during landings, and flights are scheduled to avoid periods of particularly challenging weather.

Enjoy the views!

Love.Lindsay x
